Five on Friday

Today I'm joining Amy at Love Made My Home for another Five on Friday.

1.  Breakfast Beginnings
It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Whether that is true or not is debatable, but it certainly is a great way to start the day, especially when shared with friends.
The first PQ opened in Brussels, Belgium on October 26, 1990 and can now be found in 17 countries around the world.
2.  Strolling:
Walking at a slightly slower pace in an attempt to absorb the surroundings.
With the summer heat, I've become very lazy when it comes to walking, so whenever I get a chance for a short little stroll, I take it.
3.  The Language of Flowers,
I picked up this little book in a secondhand bookshop a couple of years ago while visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I pulled it out the other day to look up Hibiscus, which is described as "Delicate Beauty" ...
and that it is.
This is the first year I've had this little tree on my balcony and I am totally in love with it.
Most days I get one or two blooms, but on Thursday, I was greeted with 6 beautiful flowers.
It's such a shame that the blooms last for only one day.
4.  A new species of rose has popped up on my balcony.
It's one of the fiber variety and comes in any color you'd like.
You can find the pattern at Skip to My Lou.
So very easy to make.
And definitely will last much longer than just a day.

And finally, number 5, perhaps the most important of all happenings this past week.
Son #2, my senior boy, graduated from high school.
I found it completely ironic that the opening date for Le Pain Quotidien of October 26th just happens to be my son's date of birth.
Soon we will have two college boys and that means lots of changes ahead.

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.
Anatole France

Thanks Amy for hosting.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Your hibiscus is glorious! And the light stonework really sets it off to perfection. Six blossoms at once?! Wow!
Congratulations to your graduate, and to his parents :)

P.S. I hear you about the heat and walking; in these recent very hot and humid days, I'm walking pretty slowly too. If I walked any slower, I'd be standing still!

*C*O*N*G*R*A*T*U*L*A*T*I*O*N*S*!* to your son and your whole family for the graduation! Where does he intend on attending college? You may have told me but I can't remember. Looks like you'll be flying to visit the boys more come this fall. I'm glad you have a pretty red hibiscus. Mine has aphids and I don't know what to do. Guess I have to take it outside and spray it. :-( Have a fun weekend! My daughter and 2 gds arrive day after tomorrow! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Congratulations to your Senior Boy, Tammy. Your Hibiscus is definitely a beauty and so are your fiber roses.

Your flowers are beautiful and how smart to make some fiber ones that will last much longer. Congratulations to son #2 on his graduation! What a huge day for all of you. Will he also be going to college here? Empty nest will be an adjustment but I kind of enjoy it. I miss the kids and wish they lived near, but having the house to ourselves and everything staying where you put it is pretty nice! HA!
Blessings always Tammy,
Betsy

It just doesn't seem possible that we've been blogging long enough for your youngest son to be old enough to be graduating. Congratulations to him and both of you. The hibiscus is beautiful, I don't blame you. And while we're out to breakfast I'll have one of those pain au chocolat.

Have just discovered your blog and Five for Friday. Enjoyed your post - congrats to your son.
The quote by France really resonated with me - as my life is changing once again: my hubby is now placed on disability so he will be home permanently and my youngest has just moved across the country. France's words have helped.

Congratulations on the graduation, such a special occasion. Great to see your hot and sunny weather as it is so cold here. I might have to crochet a few flowers too. :-)

Beautiful post for today. Congratulations to your family and especially your son. So great to see a photo of your family. I love my breakfast. They best time my hubby and I have to spend together. Not in a rush to get things done. Wishing you and family all the best.

Congratulations to your son on his graduation, Tammy! I wish him all the best for his future.
The hibiscus is lovely. It's a shame that the blooms don't last longer. Fortunately, your pretty crochetroses have a longer lifespan. :)

Five fab things, I love the flower book and agree about breakfast, sadly the only time I sit down and have a good breakfast is at the w/e, often in the week its a homemade flapjack and coffee!

Dearest Tammy,
That coffee shop made you realize the birthday of your youngest son... Indeed, one life ends before you can enter a new one.
It was a very happy celebration for having your 2nd son graduating but also a bit melancholic as it means he soon will leave for college.
You both look so proud as Parents and your son so happy! Can't believe how tall he suddenly is...
Sending you hugs and blessings and congrats!

I do love hibiscus in all it's many colours and can't wait to see my blue hibiscus flowering again probably in 3 or 4 weeks time.
Thanks for visiting Normandy, hope your week despite the heat is epic!

Congratulations on your son's graduation! Wonderful photo of you three. :)
I rarely eat breakfast, but it's nice sometimes. Yours looks lovely.
Thankfully we don't usually get temps over 100 here but 80s and 90s with 100% humidity is pretty rough for my walk/runs, but am still pushing on in my effort to keep fit since that's my main exercise (though surely pushing the mower and mowing our yard twice a week and all of the gardening adds to that). Yesterday morning when I returned from my 4 mile, my husband said that I was amazing and that most people wouldn't have kept up this long with a daily routine. That was nice to hear. Work days are few this month thankfully, off this afternoon with Sarah to enjoy some mother/daughter time. Heading to the south suburbs on Sunday to Florence & the Machine concert (Jim and Cody can't wait, LOL),
Hope you enjoy a wonderful week,
Linda

Beautiful blogpost!

I don´t think we have PQ here in Sweden
unless they opened in Stockholm while I was away.
Looks like a cozy place.

The roses on your balcony will live forever! ;)

Best wishes,
Sussie.

A lovely group of five things. The hibiscus is beautiful! That book looks awesome...is it illustrated throughout? A great find indeed. Congratulations to your son graduating senior! Aaron graduates senior in November. :)

Congratulations to son #2 and also to you and Sam for raising such wonderful sons! I had to take a double take on the crocheted roses! I need those here as when it gets hot nothing much survives. I wish we had a decent restaurant around here. I could use a break from cooking but they are anti-healthy so I steer clear! LOL! When he leaves for college you and Sam will be officially "empty nesters".
