Stashbusting: Panda Print Polyester

This is a true stashbusting project.
I bought this yarn with friends at least 5 years ago from a guy who was importing yarns from Turkey and selling them from his basement.
I don't know what possessed me to buy it.  My friends bought some, too, and I remember them saying that it sheds.
And boy does it.  It's a very thick yarn that feels like velour so I had to use a big crochet hook.  The other negative is that you can't knot it or cut it because it starts to fall apart.
It does make a nice, soft, warm cowl.
Not sure how long it will last.  It may just slowly disintegrate over time.
The bad news is I've got another 2 skeins of the same yarn in teal/turquoise.
Even worse, I just discovered there's one more of each color.  I may have to donate them to a secondhand store.

.
Happy Stashbusting Sunday!

I really like the look of the yarn. Too bad it doesn't hold up and shreds. Glad you were to make some use of it. It really is beautiful.

Oh my goodness. Well you have made a fine thing out of it, I hope it lasts a little bit :) xxx Leah

Lovely cowl and it does look warm and cozy. I think donating the other skeins sounds just right. Lovely week dear...

Yeah,,I bought a similar yarn here that does the same thing...I made a throw with it and it has not withstood the test of time...

You made me laugh with the "even worse" comment at the end! I hope that it isn't as bad as you fear! xx

Mercy! The cowl is so pretty, but how frustrating and messy to have the yarn fall apart! I would be tempted to add it to a compost pile...but your ideas are more constructive :) I'll be interested to hear what you decide to do, Tammy . xx

I think you can say you gave the yarn an honest effort. If goes to the charity bin maybe someone else can find a use for it. At least you have a cowl from it, while it lasts!

I went through a "chenille" period. I will never buy it again, although I do have two hats made of it that I do still wear and use and they've held up. The scarves I made with it... NOT. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

It looks very cozy. I've never tried crocheting with that kind of yarn, I always thought it looked a little hard to work with. I think donating the rest is a very nice idea. Maybe it can be used for other types of craft projects instead.

Thank you for linking Tammy, I have tried this yarn myself and it's awful to crochet with but it does look lovely when it's done and it's so soft, I made a long scarf with mine and it does shed and fluff gets up your nose, I still wear it though. :) xx

Donate them my friend, someone will love them and you will decrease your stash. I think the cowl looks lovely by the way.

Looks great Tammy, when it falls apart, give the fibres for the birds to help build their nests, until then, it looks lovely!

It is so pretty and does look very soft...what a shame that you expect it to fall apart. I would probably donate the rest of it too. I hope your week is a wonderful one my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy

Dearest Tammy,
your scarf looks definitely cute and cozy - but I can imagine that the yarn is difficult to process!
Thank you so much for your comment on my next blogger-action "A New Life"! I'm sure that you can contribute a lot: You're an avid handworker, you don't give up the project the creative garden, although there was vandalism (that's really a pity!!!), you eat vegetarian food, you read stories for children - in short, you're going in many areas to lead by example! And your quote says it all: "Despite the actions of others, we must keep doing what is right and good."
I would be delighted if you could explain the blogging-action "A New Life" to your blog friends in English language (just in short words), so that they might feel motivated to participate: Because in this way we can reach a bigger part of the world! And I am happy about every positive linking, every idea that makes the world a better place! Maybe your friends in real life have also good ideas and you can tell us about them!
Lots of hugs to you and your family,
Traude

Dearest Tammy,
Well, if those are the worst things that one buys without knowing full foresight; that's nothing! Not a huge investment and think about it like always having a very cute photo of you wearing that cowl! It looks very cozy and soft. So let it be...
I would certainly donate those other two; just for peace of mind!
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

The yarn looks so soft and cuddly especially in the scarf you made. Sad to put work into something that doesn't hold up. Hope you are having a great start to this new year!

It looks soft and cuddly, but I can imagine the fluff that results.

Hi Tammy - I love the cowl you made with this yarn, but it does seem difficult to use and maybe not worth the effort of having another go with it. Thank you for stopping by from Amy's link - Five on Friday. I am behind on my visiting.....Hope your week is lovely - I'll stop by again. xo Karen

Hi Tammy! The cowl turned out great in spite of unlucky yarn :)
But it's experience for you too, now you know that you should not buy such yarn.
I myself purchased one fluffy one here in India, and the biggest disappointment was that I simply could't see the stitches! Well, I turned into a baby cocoon though.

Take care! Hugs!

Hi, Tammy! I'm just amazed by the beauty of the cowl! Love it! You see how beneficial was the purchase. It looks really very cozy and warm.

Oh Tammy, I can totally sympathise with you. Some years back I bought a similar yarn in large quantity...in black colour! Only after reaching home did I realise that it cannot be used for crochet. So I decided to knit a shawl. After nearly completing the whole shawl I had to rip out the last few rows. And now I cannot find the stitches for the life of me!! So I guess it is going to remain a permanent WIP. LOL
Have a nice day.

The cowl looks so pretty but it sounds like maybe that was the reason the yarn was being sold out of a basment? laughing. I think we all have purchased something that appears to be a 'great find' and then later it doesn't work out. I liked the comment about feeding the scraps to the birds when/if it falls apart.

oh my! It is lovely! Try the Russian join on the next one. I've found it is a great way to link yarns without knots. It might work with this. I use it exclusively now.
