Scatter Kindness

There is overwhelming evidence that the higher the level of self-esteem, the more likely one will be to treat others with respect, kindness, and generosity.
Nathaniel Branden, Canadian Psychotherapist And Writer

On Sunday while Samantha and I were enjoying our leisurely breakfast sitting out on the patio of a restaurant with a view of the sea, there were two other tables of customers who were not happy with the service they were getting.  The restaurant unfortunately was short staffed so things might have been a little slow, but my feeling is that if you are out with friends or family enjoying your time, then you should not be rushing.  I mean seriously, if you are in hurry, go to McDonald's.  One lady was very embarrassing, shouting and threatening, which is basically bully behavior.  Totally uncalled for.
I had given Samantha a homemade Easter card and a crocheted heart, but after the insulting behavior our waitress had to endure, we decided we had to do something for her.  We asked if she celebrated Easter and she said she planned to go to an Easter service at church after her shift was over.  We decided to give her the heart and card instead; as Samantha said, I can make her something anytime.  A simple gesture on our part, but one we hope made a difference in her day.  I will never understand why some people think they have the right to belittle and harass others.
The above card was made for a friend at school.

Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.
Bob Kerrey

Scatter kindness and blessings wherever you go.

How very kind of you and how very horrid of that other person! If service is poor because of lack of care or so on that is one thing, but when a restaurant is busy and people are working flat out you just have to wait your turn don't you! I am sure that your lovely gesture made the waitresses day!! xx

What a sweet thing for you to do. I'll be you made that server's day.

I've seen people act horrendously. I think the quote is right ......those nasty folks have issues bigger than a delayed meal.

My ex mother-in-law was always doing that and still does from what I hear. It is very sad for the people that have to endure it and for her as she doesn't fool me. I'm always standing up against bullies. I have ever since I was little...I should have been a lawyer probably as I cannot stand to see anyone degraded or humiliated in any way.
Many, many years ago I read some of Nathaniel Branden's books....he seemed to always have the answers to people's behaviors.
What a wonderful gesture that you gave her the card. Good thing I wasn't there as I would've gotten in the rude woman's face! LOL!

How nice - your kind gesture probably helped the waitress forget all about the impatient shouty lady.
I hope you had a hoppy Easter, too! Or will you celebrate on the 12th? Or both? I like the idea of celebrating both.

I can never understand the behavior of some people. I had a friend years ago who would do this in restaurants. She went out of her way to be unkind. After two episodes, I refused to go anywhere with her anymore and gradually lost touch with her. She couldn't see anything wrong in her behavior. Her feeling was that they were there to serve her every whim, no matter how absurd her whims were!
How sweet of you and your friend to give the waitress the card and heart. I'm sure it warmed her to know that there were still good people out there.
You're my hero for the day Tammy!
Blessings,
Betsy

Bless you two for being kind to the wait staff. It makes my heart sing to do Random Acts of Kindness and I truly try to do such each and every day. Love your little crocheted bunnies.

We had the same thing happen at a restaurant today - people complaining at the next table. I asked the waitress why they were upset and she told me that many people complain to try and get a free meal or have a reason not to leave a tip! I was shocked! I always make sure and leave at least a 20% tip for all meals and to thank the server repeatedly for their service. How nice of the two of you to treat her with those gifts! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

oh Tammy. I am with you. John and I abhor being in a restaurant and having someone cause a scene because they think they are entitled. We tend to go out of our way to over tip and/or make sure the wait staff knows not everyone there doesnt think the same. I am so happy you gave her the card and I am sure it soothed her self esteem

That was a sweet gesture, Tammy. I'm sure the waitress was touched by your kindness. I hope that aside from that incident, you had a lovely Easter.

That's so nice of making card for her and for sure such moments always puts hope in humanity.:)
I have seen some people snapping at waiters and that's annoying. If we are going to restaurant and we feel there was any problem with the service, we politely write in the feedback form which most of the restaurants give here. Usually, we have nothing to complain and I feel before complaining, the type of restaurant should be considered. As you said, if in hurry, go to takeaways and if they want best service go to the 5 star and above hotels.

How kind of you - I HATE when wait persons are berated...I quit going out with one in our group of friends because of it, after I apologized profusely to a waitress and her manager. NO excuse for it. I'm sure you made your waitress' day, friend! XOXO

Adding some of your lovely crochet pieces to cards turned out beautifully.
People can be so thoughtless and cruel sometimes it is very challenging to shake it off and remember that they are doing their best at that moment.
Kindness goes a long way as did your thoughtfulness I'm sure!

Way to go! It's always annoying to me when people harass and bully wait staff. Even when you have poor service, you can get your point across with being ugly. Your kindness probably made her feel better the rest of the day.
