I See the Light

Finally!  SUMMER VACATION has begun!
Let me just say, it's been one hell of a school year.  I have to constantly remind myself to shake off the negative and focus on the good in each and every day.
Afternoons here are pretty much unbearable with temperatures having soared to 120 and above.  Any walking I want to do from now on will need to happen early morning before the heat of the day sets in.  Good thing I don't mind getting up early.
All of the pictures above were taken last Wednesday when school was closed for high school graduation.  We were back to work on Thursday, had off Friday, and then worked Saturday through today.  Most people find their jobs wind down towards the end of the year, but mine never does.  I could stay all summer and never catch up.  The work will be there in August when we return and it will be full speed ahead through another year (possibly my last).
Friday morning hubby and I walked but after 15 minutes he declared that his walking days were over.  Even the morning temperature was too much for him.  Thankfully I now have my days free to do with as I please. I will do my best to continue walking.
You can bet there will be a whole lot of crochet going on.  I've been doing a great job of stashbusting in the evenings but haven't had a chance to post.
The verse "work with your hands and lead a quiet life" resonates with me often.
Hope all is well where you are.
Best wishes and blessings,

Wonderful post Tammy of photos and thoughts. I am not sure how you stand that kind of heat, it drains the energy from me, but somehow I am sure your body must get used to it. happy stash busting, looking forward to seeing what you create! Xo

Hi T! The temps there would do me in I think. WOW that's HOT! It would be really hard to keep up walking with things that hot, but I hope you do because I love seeing the surroundings you post from your walks.
My daughter daughter said it was a rough school year for her too. Maybe it's in the air. Our school here let out on Friday and so I have been able to have the grands during the days once in awhile.

Yikes! 120+ sounds unbearable! Thank goodness for air conditioning. The flowers seem to not mind the heat...they're so pretty. Stay cool and happy crocheting!

Hello Dear Tammy...Oh, those temps would sizzle me. Totally sizzle. I'm a cool weather girl and even face-freezing weather doesn't bother me that much. But hot temps? Uh uh. I'd never make it in Kuwait.

So happy you are now officially on summer vacation. That is wonderful!

Take care and have a happy and thankful day! Susan

It must be very stressful for you Tammy both my son and daughter teach at university and the amount of marking they have to get through seems neverending. You are very brave to go out walking when it's so hot, I found that I enjoyed evening walks in Syria but of course it never gets as hot there. Enjoy your summer break and put work behind you for a couple of months, I'm looking forward to seeing all your stash-buster makes. :) xx

My hubby was reading your blog today and was amazed at how hot it is there! We don't do well in high heat. We took our trailer to Oklahoma for a family reunion and it was 107 degrees and our 1 AC unit could not keep up and it got to 90 deg. inside the trailer! What do you do there if the electricity goes out and cannot run your AC? Eek! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What a wonderful motto, ' work with your hands and lead a quiet life' I am going to put that in my little book. It's true of course, I'm never happier than when I'm making something up in my workroom.

That verse resonates with me too. It suits me perfectly, really. It sounds like it's really brutally hot there now, it must be difficult. I can understand wanting to walk in the mornings. It's not as hot here but still, the mornings are the main time I can stand to be outdoors. I hope you find some time to relax and enjoy yourself this summer.

Happy vacation! I'm glad you get a few months off. I hope the mornings stay cool enough for you to go on your walks. I, too, am a walker, and over this past horrible winter I couldn't get out for months and it drove me crazy. I can see where the extreme heat would be just as bad. I like seeing all your crochet. It's bad that work has to be stressful, but it's nice to have something positive like crochet and your walks and all the pretty flowers to focus on.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy every waking minute of your summer vacation :)
Every image of flowers and vegetation is stunning ~ apparently those plants are adapted to thrive in temperatures that would melt me into a puddle ~ and I love your color combinations in crochet. I also did a tiny bit of stashbusting last weekend, when I dusted off the knitting needles and made a couple of washcloths with a ball of cotton that's been waiting a looong time to be turned into something useful. Very satisfying, this stashbusting thing!
I hope your next walk is brilliant and soul-filling :)

Enjoy your summer! We just got back from Alaska where the high was 65 degrees! I can't image 120 degrees!!!

Hi Tammy, I can't imagine living with such temperatures. We do have only around 86 at the moment and this is already too warm for me to feel comfortable. You've been busy stash busting. The crocheted bags are very sweet.
Have a great summer vacation!

Tammy...I wish you well with all that heat. We went up to 109 last summer and I was truly frightened...I thought surely it was the end of the world. I mean this is the Midwest! I applaud you for relentlessly getting out in the early hours, we need that connection. Even on freezing cold days here in the winter I get out everyday for fresh air.

Not sure why your school year was bad but I can imagine in any occupation, we have our unpleasant times. Savor your days off!

XO,
Jane

Hope you'll have time to rest and rejuvenate after this trying school year. Walking before the heat of the day sounds like a great plan. Enjoy your summer!

120!!!! That seems almost ridiculously hot! It's been getting to the low 70's here and I love it. Your crochet projects are quite wonderful. I love the little bags. Perfect for small gifts.
I'm so sorry that you've had a rough year. I hope you have a refreshing summer and that you will be able to retire and have time for you after next year.
Blessings,
Betsy

Hi Tammy,
Happy Summer Vacation to you!! :)
I wish I had the whole summer off! You know I work for a University, but of course it's business as usual here in the summer months, though normally it's a very slow time. I take lots of vacation and will be doing that in fact tomorrow and beginning next Wednesday for the remainder of June, so that makes me happy. : )
I think the weather is relative to wherever one lives, meaning people get used to their own weather patterns. The past few days here, the humidity has been so high, even though the temperatures are not and Jim and I were commenting on how hot we were any time we were doing physical work around the yard, like last night. I prefer hot temperatures with no humidity, as that bothers me less. :)

Well, I know you'll be enjoying your time off. Take care,
Linda

120° + crocheting = oxymoron! But then I figured out in that kind of heat, you must practically live in air conditioning! (I'm a quick one...) Last summer my daughter was in India, and I had to ask her if it really felt that hot. She looked at me like I was crazy and let me know that YES, it really felt that hot! I just can't even imagine. Do you get to wear shorts there?

With it being a "bad" school year for you, I can feel the relief in your writing with having the summer off now! Although I can't imagine that kind of heat. I know you said you rise early, but I bet it's hot even at that time. Enjoy your time off!

Possible your last? Hmmm... what is going on with that? It is hot here too, but not as hot as where you are. Now yo might have some time to yourself on your walks, even though they are very hot.
Hugs to you,
Meredith

Dearest Tammy,
Lovely photos and glad you manage to balance the negative by winning positive thoughts and energy.
So important. We had a lovely evening walk, after supper when it had rained hard.

'Work with your hands and lead a quiet life'. LOVE that phrase!

Beautiful photos, Tammy...love the collage!

I don't think I could bear walking in those temps either. The humidity in our summer gives my asthma a beating.

Enjoy your summer holidays...I'll look forward to seeing all your projects. xo

Happy summer, Tammy.
