Beautifying

This morning we made an early morning trip to the plant souk and were quite surprised to see that there were so many flowers to choose from.  Last time we went it wasn't quite so colorful.
My husband bought a few trees to put outside his warehouse in the industrial area, the reality of which is very grim.  Truth is, there are a lot of areas in this country that are filled with trash.  People walk through it without a second thought which always boggles my mind.  Why would you not want your surroundings to be clean and presentable?  I started sweeping up trash which completely freaked out a couple of the workers.  They insisted I stop, but I am a worker bee, always have been.  I don't believe in waiting for others to do something when I am capable of doing it myself.  (Which is why I don't have a maid at home when most people in this country do.  I am an anomoly in that regard for sure.)

I bought moss roses and some rosemary but didn't even take pictures of them.  I spent an hour and a half repotting and planting and sweeping and cleaning but had to call it quits because I literally started to feel nauseous from the heat.
My gardenia (I think that's what it is) has just started to bloom and there are still tomatoes popping out, too.  Having plants in this environment isn't easy, but to me it is worth the effort.  And honestly, what would Jingles do if she didn't have a balcony to explore, pots to sit in and a place to relax?
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Goodness me! I can't imagine walking through that and not noticing either. Good for you for the clean up job. I love all of your pretty flowers and plant and Jingles looks quite content. :-). Take care of yourself in that heat.
Happy Easter to you and your family.
Blessings,
Betsy

I know how you feel about garbage everywhere. Whenever the snow melts here, there's always lots of garbage that has been trapped in the snow and ice all winter. I'm glad the people on my small street keep it relatively tidy, but the neighbourhood behind me isn't that respectful of the environment and just let the garbage fly. The little burst of green tree against the concrete walls looks quite nice :) A breathing space. The blooms on your other flowers are gorgeous, and I can't wait to get some green and colour outside here again! Wendy x

Good for you Tammy, you bring back memories of my time in Syria a lot of my friends had maids too but I preferred not too, I could never bring myself to tell others to do something that I am quite capable of doing myself. I hope that your plants thrive but do take care not to overdo it in the heat. :)

It would be wonderful if more people thought like you. Why were the men telling you to stop sweeping? That it wasn't your job or they didn't care if it was like that?

You have the heat already? I imagine it gets worse. Your April is more like our August...I stay in a lot then. Heat was something I enjoyed years ago, well, actually sun. Weaker or smarter? Ha!

Your flowers are just beautiful (Jingles, too!) Happy Easter to you and your family!

XO,
Jane

Beautiful flowers. I bet those men weren't used to someone wanting to clean up the area. Good for you. Jingles likes the flowers for sure.

Hello Tammy...You are so good to clean up the trash. It is sad that people do that. Loved all your flower photos. Jingles is the luckiest kitty in that entire country! Thanks for all your visits, Tammy. Susan

I think that IS a gardenia ... what a lot of lovely flowers you have! The tomatoes must grow like crazy there, although they probably need a lot of water in that heat.

The tree against the warehouse wall looks so cool and fresh. And I would be sweeping too, if I were there. :)

Hi Tammy, The plant souk had really a great selection. Your flowers look beautiful and sweet Jingles must be happy :). I bought some flowers yesterday as well. Petunia, verbena, phlox and a small ivy. They're going to live on our tiny front porch.
Happy Easter!
Julia

I would be just like you sweeping up and cleaning up everything I could. Yes that is a gardenia and it is beautiful. Mine will bloom in a few weeks. We are getting hotter here to, but not quite as hot as you, yet.
Hugs to you Tammy.

I hope those people learn from you when seeing you clean up the trash. That sure would be frustrating. The flowers are beautiful. I admire your sweet spirit. Wishing you a lovely Easter, Tammy.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh - that is EXACTLY a gardenia...I have one at my front door, too - am hoping for blooms this year, but not seeing any buds yet, sadly. Take the rest of the weekend off, Ms. Worker Bee - I love that you were trying to help out. XOXOXO

Hi Tammy,

Kudos to you for taking the initiative and cleaning up! Back home on the island, a group of us 'foreigners' have done the same for our village and the road leading into it, and have also had funny looks sent our way. Oh well.

Your flowers are very pretty and worth all the hard work, I'm sure. I can't wait to see and smell my gardenias, lilacs and frangipani flowers when I return.

Wishing you a blessed Easter!

Dearest Tammy,
Oh my, how can they ever ignore such trash and first of all; HOW dare they trash everywhere!
I'm like you, doing it all myself, always have and I hope always will. Worker bees do well, except in the heat when you probably did not drink enough water. Bending down a bit too much also does the trick... Glad you both managed to do what you wanted to and now you can enjoy your lovely Gardenias on the balcony. What a perfume that will create and Jingles is loving it too. After all, it's almost her birthday...
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

Oh dear Tammy,
what kind of a cute red furry plant in the flowerpot on the last photo? ;o)) And I also love all the other colorfull plants you show us!
I really can understand your struggle against the dirt all around. In India we saw this problem, too - and for us, who we are used to relatively clean streets in Central Europe, the sight sometimes was staggering. My friend Monika took lots of trash-photos to show them to her mother and sister because she wanted to be able to illustrate this problem to them...
Love and Happy Easter, my dear!

Tammy,
We just returned from New York and found many parts with the same garbage issue. I just don't get it! Because it was so windy, there was literally garbage in the trees as well! I am PROUD of your cleaning and beautification efforts!!! If I was there, I'd be right beside you. =)

I am always disheartened by the trash along roadsides and pull-offs, even in rural areas where the traffic is relatively minimal. What are people thinking?? Even when I take Piper for our walks by that little pond in the woods, I can't let her off lead until we are well away from the little parking area, because of course she is fascinated by every empty junkfood container, plastic cup, paper towel and (ugh!) disposable diaper left there by some thoughtless person.
(I had to go back and delete three times before a harsher word could be softened down into "person." Littering REALLY annoys me!)
On a much happier note, I agree about the necessity of providing that little piece of paradise for Jingles! And it's nice that you can share it, too! :)
