Trying New Things

Two failed attempts.
Can you guess what they were supposed to be?
After I saw Becca's post about them and a link to the pattern at Planet M Files, I decided to give it a go.  I mean, after all, it was supposed to be a "very quick and easy pattern".  You would think after all my years of crocheting, I would get it right on the first try, but my pattern reading skills truly are lacking at times.
I guess the third time IS a charm as I finally have something that at least resembles a lovely little pinecone.  The pattern does call for a lot of slip stitching which I found to be fiddly.  I may or may not make a few more.
Next up was a recipe I've wanted to try for a while.  Carrot, cumin and kidney bean falafels from the blog A Girl Named Jack.
They were shallow fried in vegetable oil but I wound up also putting them under the broiler for a little while to try and crisp them up.  We had them for lunch with roasted sweet potatoes, salad and spicy pita chips.  Yummy!
And finally, food for thought from Nelson Mandela along with a snapshot of the end of yet another day.
Hope you are having a wonderful day in your little corner of the world.
Blessings,

I am so pleased to hear that I'm not the only one who has trouble with patterns after years of crocheting!! You got there in the end though and that pinecone is a little cutie. I hope life has been treating you well. I've missed your blog and am finally getting a chance to read through what you've been up to recently.

Have a fab week hon.
Leah

I'm sure I would have trouble with those pinecones too. You managed it in the end and you will probably find it easier after a few more.

The falafels sound delicious!

A wise quote indeed from a very wise man.

Those pine cones are about the cutest crochet project I've ever seen! Between you and Becca and Dawn I may just give crochet a try one of these days. Cheers, kimmie

Dearest Tammy,
Love your pinecones. As a matter of fact I've seldom created something that came to be from a first only trial!
Your lunch looks really yummy and very healthy.
Well, as for that quote, we all could write some good ones when having to spend 27 years in a tiny room with lots of time.
Hugs,
Mariette

I knew what it was right away! I may have to do some of those as they are so cute and I am loving quick and simple lately.
Your lunch looked so good..I have to go eat now...again! Plus, I am smelling banana nut bread baking in the oven which doesn't help! Have a nice evening.

I have trouble with patterns all the time, especially with little projects like that. I tried to make a hedgehog once and got so confused I threw the whole thing out. I think the third time was the charm, I can definitely see the pine cone from here! Maybe we should have a year of Nelson Mandela quotes, it would do us all good to remember his wise words.
Hugs,
Meredith

Mmm....your lunch looks delish as does those Christmas cookies below. Even if the little reindeer's legs are broken. LOL!

Hope you are having a terrific weekend Tammy!

I liked your pinecone too, at least it came out. I have so many projects begun and not finished or never done again because they were either too fiddly or didnt come out! I love sweet potatoes too!

Tammy your pine cones are just too clever, it amazes me all the creative things that can be made with yarn.
Your falafels look delicious-I haven't had those since my vegetarian days back in the 70s and 80s-I may need to make me some now.
Have an awesome new week

Your little pinecone looks very cute, Tammy, and I admire your determination to make it. Being a rather new crocheter I find patterns quite daunting! But I do love crochet and just making things up! Your food looks delicious, you make such tasty recipes.
Happy week ahead!

I'm sure my attempt at a pinecone would be worse than those two. The last one is very cute, Tammy, and your meal looks yummy. Lovely thought from Nelson Mandela. Good use of time is so important - it's all we have. Diane

Glad you finally figured out the pattern because that pinecone is really cute. Perfect for the season. We had a lovely sunset this evening. Lots of pinks, mauves, and purples.

Hope all is well. I'm finally back in the desert and ready to blog. Now to catch up on your blog.

Your Pinecone is just perfect! I've been crocheting for 46 years and still have trouble with some patterns. Don't be too hard on yourself, after all the end result is what counts. Your dinner looks very good. We've been eating out at parties all weekend, I'm ready to have some good home cooking. :-)
Blessings,
Betsy

They do look like little pine cones to me!
Maybe when things quieten down I will sit down quietly and have another go!
