Tin Can Goes Glam

We started Spring Break last week with a dust storm and it seems we are ending it that way, too.
Don't let the glow through the windows fool you.
It has been a very dark and dusty day.
The kind of dreary day that calls for warm, comforting food even though you know it's not cold outside.
On this last day before we head back to school, I've been happily crocheting.
Yesterday Lorraine at With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart posted about the cans and jars she was inspired to upcycle because of posts I had done in the past. (Thanks Lorraine!)
She in turn inspired me to get out all the cans I've been collecting and get to work.

I made mine in double crochet and then weaved in different colored yarns.
This one will be filled with colored pencils and gifted to a little girl along with a notepad so she can draw and color and create.

For more tin can inspiration, you can visit Creative Carmelina.
She is always creating something incredible with hook and yarn.

Wishing you a colorful, creative day.

Tammy, what a wonderful "can", its adorable. I think I'm gonna have to start collecting them myself and what a great different project to look forward to. I love gifting this with a notepad, coloring book, etc., etc. A lovely pen and a journal would be nice for a big girl as well. Thanks for such ideas. Blessings.

The cans are so cute, I can think of hundreds of uses for them!

I'm curious...how do people deal with the dust storms? Do you have to keep your face covered when you go outside? It seems like it would be terrible to get in your nose and eyes.

I hope you have a nice relaxing time before school starts up again!

XO,
Jane

Your crocheted can covers are very pretty. I remember my auntie making crocheted can covers for very large juice cans. I think she would put them together in sets of five to make hassocks. My memory is fuzzy.

I am sorry you had more dust. No fun!

Though dark and dusty outside, your living room looks lovely, bathed in beautiful, soft light.

Our home is emptier as our kids headed back home. They all head back to school Monday. My son-in-law is a high school math teacher, my daughter speaks in health classes and of course, the kids have classes. Most of the week, the house was filled with 10 people and 2 dogs. It is always hard when they leave. The youngest, Shaela even cried. They will be back down in August and maybe we can get up to visit for a weekend before then.

I am amazed at the creativity of Carmelina! I love her style too. Your glamorous crochet cover is beautiful and fits so nicely with your decor. You just might have to make one for yourself :)

So sorry you're having another dust storm but at least you've been able to be productive. Seems the days I have to be in are the days I don't accomplish much (except eating). Love the cans & what a nice gift for a little girl to not only get the beautiful can but brand new, sharp pencils. I think I would love that. Hope your dust is gone soon & you can open the windows. Have a good weekend! Jan

My you have had lots of dust storms lately haven't you? It seems you're making the best of it though and with such a thougful gift too. My Frandma used to sew batting and cloth on old juice cans to make hassocks like Lah Tea Dah posted above. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Blessings,
Betsy

Such a beautiful photo of your room Tammy and I love the play of light through the sheer curtains.
Quite magical.
I would love to get amoungst the interesting looking pieces you've collected.

I'm doing cans at the moment too!
I left a few outside to rust and the next stage is to paint and decorate - fun!

That can is something I have never seen and it turned out so cute. I will check out that link. thanks.
Hope it clears up soon where you are. It's been windy here too, stirring up lots of dust because it is soooo dry. Still hoping for some rain to come our way.

Hi Tammy,

Yes, such a shame about the dust storms but you are making the most of being indoors with all your crafts and cooking comfort foods.
The coloured pencil holder and notepad would make such a great gift.
Hope back to school will go well.

I've made a cover but didn't take it down inside at all....terrific idea. And I LOVE the yarn running through in different colors, great idea! I know that was a great way to spend the day.

Your jar looks so cute! The idea of weaving Colored yarns gives it a very trendy look :) nice upcycling project ! Thanks for sharing!
We too get dust storms in summer in India, not big ones, but just enough to create a scene at home that I have not dusted for a week eventhough I have toiled just 24 hrs back. It's a waste of time ...I feel I should have invested in crocheting than dusting.

Dust storms! We had snow. Seems that Mother Nature is not playing nice this week!!!

Love that little covered can and what a sweet idea to gift it. Whomever the girl is, I'm sure she'll be thrilled!
