Friday Market on Black Friday

For the first time this season, hubby and I ventured out to Souk Al Jumaa (Friday Market). We are having blue skies and beautiful weather today.

There's lots of used items and things you can buy on the cheap, but I like to check out the antiques section.

It turned out to be more of a photo opportunity than anything else.

Hubby got a kick out of seeing this balance scale for food items as it is the type used when he was little.

He came home with a carpet for his office, but I didn't buy a thing.

Today is Black Friday in the States. I don't do crowds or crazy.

Did any of you kick off the holiday shopping season with a mad dash to the stores?

“Remember, the greatest gift is not found in a store nor under a tree, but in the hearts of true friends.”

Living in Canada, we don't have Black Friday. But even if we did, I can not picture myself getting up early and heading out into the long holiday line ups. Nope...not my idea of a good time. :(

You did get lovely photos! I don't do crowds or crazy either :) I am not much of a shopper and go out of necessity. But strolling through antiques is a fun thing to do.

I am not fond of big crowds so I have never done the Black Friday thing. I love your photos though, what a blast to walk around that market and I think if I had purchased anything it would have been some of those spools of thread!
Have a great day!

No crowds or crazy for me either, Tammy! I like to hang out at home the day after Thanksgiving and watch movies and munch on leftovers. :)
Hope you all have a great weekend,

I liked the fat bead necklaces in your pictures and the little camel in the bottom picture :) Believe it or not, I did venture to Wal-mart yesterday to buy some dog food. It was not as busy as it usually is - prolly cuz most folks were at home since it was T'giving Day. I'd had to go out anyway to pick up our doggy's insulin at the pharmacy (which was open also). Now today, Black Friday, I may go out to Michaels to pick up some knitting needles.

No Black Friday here in England so I went to Totnes market in Devon today,it has the reputation of being the most hippie, boho, alternative market in the UK. I love it.

No, we didn't do the Black Friday thing. And I'm sitll in my jammies (at 10:30am) for awhile. Anyhow, the stores (WalMart, etc) in the 'big cities' can keep it. I do NOT need anything that bad. Come on....who actually NEEDS a 70" big screen tv? Or am I the weird one?

Years ago (over many margarita's) my friend and I thought we'd 'do' Black Friday. When 5am came and the alarm went off, I called her and told here I wasn't going. It sounded SO fun the night before! Haaaaaaaaa

I like quiet, don't you?

Nice antiques. When my husband was stationed in Turkey in the '80's, he went to a couple of markets and brought home some tea pots, some lanterns and a rug. I liked your photos of what is offered in your part of the world. The colors are nice!

NO! that isn't my idea of shopping, the more I can avoid crowds the better. And starting on Thanksgiving day is awful to me. I think we should savor that day for what it is before obliterating it.

Your market looks like fun. Is it kind of like a flea market/commercial market? Blessings, Diane

I think my eyes would pop out at that market, it's so full of beautiful things! Even the wooden spools of thread (it may sound silly but I've been craving for one of those and they're nowhere to be found around here :( ) It looks like Alladin's cave to me :)
No Black friday around here... and no crazy Christmas shopping for me either, this year I'm giving little gifts made by myself...

Your market looks like a great place to just look and look!

No, we didn't partake of the craziness of the sales, I am too old for all that nonsense anymore!

I dislike going near the malls at this time of year as it just gets crazier and crazier. I don't do well in crowds either. It makes me feel claustrophobic and suffocated.

It looked like a great market to browse. How is your ankle now?

Have a great weekend,

Dearest Tammy,

You are right, it is not worth it for throwing yourself into such a shopping madness. One woman used pepper spray to get to the front of the row... How criminal! Morals have just declined way too much.
I stayed in bed most of the day and for the rest it was a calm day. That balance scale is one like I had from my great-uncle in The Netherlands. I'd polished the brass and painted the rest black in high gloss. That was pretty for on the broad window sill in my living room...
Love to you,

Mariette

I love black friday! While everyone is at the stores I stay home and decorate for Christmas!

I would have had fun looking through all that jewelry!!

no way! I am NOT a black Friday shopper....I boycott it, thinking it takes away from time with my family...besides, I worked retail over 20 years and I know all those "sales" are a sham for the most part!

I love the colours of the oriental carpets and oriental lamps etc I hope one day I will be able to buy an oriental kaftan. I saw some beauties in a shop in Stockholm named Raja. So maybe when I reach my goal when it comes to weightloss I will buy one. They have all kind of stuff from Middle East and India. :)
Have a great evening!

Looks like a marvelous place to spend a Friday -so many trinkets :)

As to your question - NO. I definitely do not do crowds or crazy sales. Not for me at all. I barely even like shopping out in public at all, to be honest. It's just not for me. I do the majority and really this year - it's been ALL - of my Birthday gift/Christmas gift shopping ONLINE. It's my preferred method, because I have several online favorites, can find unique gifts, and not have to waste gas or energy out running about trying to locate things that I can find at the click of a button.

So, no. Thanksgiving Friday is our Decorating day at home. Jim and I got everything done, well almost everything. I left the ornaments on the tree for Sarah and Anthony who happily spent Saturday evening hanging them all and it looks wonderful. They also spent the entire time, listening to all of my Christmas CDS - everything from Rosemary Clooney to Amy Grant. These are some neat teenagers, I tell you. :)

Hope you have a wonderful new week my friend,
Linda
