I will light candles ...

My friend Shereen shared the following poem with me by email. I thought it was a great poem to share this first week of the new year.

I will light candles this New Year.
Candles of joy, despite all sadness,
Candles of hope where despair keeps watch.
Candles of courage where fear is ever present,
Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days,
Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens.
Candles of love to inspire all my living,
Candles that will burn all the year long.

---Howard Thurman

For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. PSALM 18:28

We will also light a candle today for Sam the Man's birthday.

Homemade brownies a' la mode will be on the menu.  Sending sweet wishes your way for a terrific Tuesday. Blessings of peace, joy and love. Tammy

  2. Brownies a' la mode sounds delicious. Happy birthday to Sam the Man. Very moving poem. I've been using my Scentsy warmers instead of candles recently. I did get a couple of candles for Christmas. Maybe I'll get one out and light it tomorrow.

  15. I've enjoyed catching up on your blog. I love quotes and you have some wonderful ones. There's nothing like pondering something someone else has already thought about and put into words in a wonderful way. Looks like you have some good crafting to do. I enjoy altering books but haven't done much lately. Altered cards too...the free spirit in me! Hope you all had a good birthday celebration and best wishes for the new year.

  16. Dearest Tammy,

Happy birthday for Sam (it's my Papa's 90th birthday today, I did a blog about him...) and enjoy this special day together in family style!

  17. Dearest Tammy,

Both of are (retired) teachers, professional writers and we also kept a journal till the year 2004. So that's how I always can go back to photos and find the info. The poems from my childhood I just scanned from an old exercise book that I kept. Now they are precious since they're half a century old! But I'm in the process (slowly, as it is so time consuming) to make all our photos, slides etc. digital. Hope to finish that someday!
My third brother is also a writer, he published several professional books and my great Uncle had his PhD in literature so it must somehow run in our genes from my paternal side...
    Lots of love,
