Stash Busting Sunday: Four More for LILY

There's been more walking and reading of late than crocheting.
But over the weekend, I was able to crochet 4 more squares for LILY.
If you've not read about the project yet, you can do so here:  Love in the Language of Yarn.

Walking for Wisdom

Above all, do not lose your desire to walk.  Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness.  I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.
~Soren Kierkegaard

A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.
~Paul Dudley White

After a day's walk everything has twice its usual value.
~George Macauley Trevelyan
A personal matter has required my attention this past week.
Clarity was needed so many walks were taken.
I hope to strike a balance soon.
Blessings,

Stash Busting: So Far

On Friday I posted about LILY.
Yesterday was a very successful crochet day as I finished up 9 squares for the cause.
Sure wish the school week didn't cut into my free time.
For more stash busting, go here.
Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Gratitude and Giving Back

Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, - a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.
George Herbert
I haven't turned the television on in weeks.
And don't read the newspaper.
So it wasn't until late Tuesday morning that I learned of the bombings at the Boston Marathon.
I will never understand such senseless, evil acts.
Why do some people feel the need to cause such suffering?
Several years ago I bought The Happiness Project but never finished reading it.  At the time, I think it wasn't quite what I expected so I couldn't get into it.
But I've decided to give it another chance.
In the midst of a crazy world, I think it is best to concentrate on being grateful, happy, positive individuals.
And to use our talents to give back.
My next stash busting project is in support of LILY.
Dianne Jones is a Brit living in Turkey who, along with volunteers, provides knitted (and crocheted) garments and blankets for children in need.
Right now, they are making blankets for Syrian refugees.
I've gone with a granny square since they are quick to make.
The group is asking for only 3 squares, but I plan to work up more than that before mailing them out.
I hope all is well in your corner of the world.
Have a great day!

Sunday Stash Busting: Two By Two

It's a good thing there was no Punto yarn to be found at the craft store last week.
The cotton bits I've gathered together have taken me further than I expected in the stash busting process.
There's now a total of 26 of these kitchen lovelies.
Pattern can be found here.
They can be used as doilies or coasters or dishcloths.
Today it was back to school and boy did the day go fast.

Have a great day!

Tin Can Goes Glam

We started Spring Break last week with a dust storm and it seems we are ending it that way, too.
Don't let the glow through the windows fool you.
It has been a very dark and dusty day.
The kind of dreary day that calls for warm, comforting food even though you know it's not cold outside.
On this last day before we head back to school, I've been happily crocheting.
Yesterday Lorraine at With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart posted about the cans and jars she was inspired to upcycle because of posts I had done in the past. (Thanks Lorraine!)
She in turn inspired me to get out all the cans I've been collecting and get to work.

I made mine in double crochet and then weaved in different colored yarns.
This one will be filled with colored pencils and gifted to a little girl along with a notepad so she can draw and color and create.

For more tin can inspiration, you can visit Creative Carmelina.
She is always creating something incredible with hook and yarn.

Wishing you a colorful, creative day.

The Boy is Back

Our oldest son returned from his Senior Trip this morning.
Five boys away for a week.
Their first trip without parent supervision.
I was nervous sending him away.
His father said it would be a good experience.
After all, he will be going away to college this year.
He returned with gifts just for me.
The boy knows me well.
They had a good time though the weather was much colder than expected.  And it was very quiet since it was still the off season.
The photos of sand and sea that he shared with me while away inspired these little gift bags.
I made some last year in July as seen here (starfish patterns included).
Have a wonderful day!

The Makings of a Perfect Day

A quiet morning.
Toasted walnut bread with cream cheese and honey for breakfast.
 Crocheting.
 Walking and exploring.
 Bird watching.
Baking.
Relaxing.
I hope your day is perfect, too.
