Five Flowers on Friday

Today I'm joining Carly and Tricky at Fast Blog for Five on Friday.
On May 22nd I posted about this child's board book of flowers that I recently got.  I love all the colorful illustrations so thought it would be fun to find real flowers to match.

Flower Number 1
Flower number 2:
I deadheaded my daisies and a few days later found two tiny little surprise blooms.
Flower number 3:
Buds and blooms on my balcony.
It's amazing how these two blooms are on the same plant and yet look so different.

Flower number 4:
Last year I had a red hibiscus that succumbed to the summer heat, so this winter we bought another one, in a different color.
It had an aphid problem several weeks ago but that's under control now.  One beautiful flower opened up this morning and many more buds are just waiting to bloom.

And finally, flower number 5:
I don't think there's anything on this planet that more trumpets life than the sunflower. For me that's because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that's such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.

    What a great idea to post about the book and then the real flowers. They are all beautiful and yes....look towards the light....always! Have a great weekend....it's Memorial Day weekend here so lots of tourists in town but thankfully, I live on a quiet street!

    Beautiful flowers ! My Hibiscus plant got two flowers this morning ! Unfortunately they don't last very long but they are so beautiful !

    I've enjoyed seeing the illustrations in the book together with the real flowers. It was interesting to see the small flowers in between the bracts of the bougainvillea in one of your photo mosaics. The observation that the cheery sunflower heads turn to the light is good to think about.

    Your five flowers are very inspiring. I like the theme of taking the flowers from your book and finding examples of them. It makes me want to seek out some patterns to make crochet versions of each of your flower examples. That would be fun but I have so many other things to finish first!

    Instead I will go and enjoy the flowers in my garden (my calendulas are all flowering prettily after recent rains) and keep your idea in the back of my mind for when I get the opportunity to start something new.

    What a great idea for a post, Tammy, I really enjoyed it! I have a lovely blue hibiscus in my garden but it's nowhere near blooming, it's only just come into leaf and I'll have to wait until August for the flowers. They usually come out while I'm away on holiday so my neighbour gets to enjoy them more than I do, either that or it pours with rain and spoils the blooms. Sigh. x

    Beautiful images! And I love the book, too. I have a children's book about trees that is in terrible shape - got wet and grimy at some point in its career - but every time I decide to discard it, I open it and turn a page or two, and then decide to keep it a while longer. It's been about ten years so far...

    Tammy - what a great idea to match the flowers to the book! When we lived in Arizona, we had several Bougainvillea, and I really miss them. The colors were so vibrant and long-lasting!

    This might be the cutest blog post EVER! Love the photos of your flowers.

    I bought a pot of sunflowers for my porch last week. I won't lie. They weren't cheap. But, they bring a smile to my face every time I go out on the balcony. That is PRICELESS!

    I can't even imagine 115 degrees! I melt at 80. I love your flowers. Especially the daisys. I have started my planting for the year. It feels sooooo good. :) Kit
