A Different Direction and Something New

For the past couple of days I've been enjoying homemade banana bread compliments of my girlfriend, Melissa, who dropped a loaf off a few nights ago.  A slice with a little bit of light cream cheese along with my morning coffee is a delicious way to start the day.
Today's walk took me in a different direction.
Down a little alley way.
Seeing such deep blue skies puts a spring in my step.
Over to the next block.
Where I spied this metal rooster hiding amongst some vines.
Around to the next street.
Where this pretty concrete fence encircles the mosque.

Beautiful grass, bushes and palm trees were on this street corner.
Where I heard a little cluck, cluck, cluck as hens darted away.
I had a late start so the sun was high in the sky at this point.
Finally around a corner and onto another street.
Where there was a moment of lovely shade from a row of trees.
Need to stop for a rest?
Into the home stretch now.
People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle.
(Thich Nhat Hanh)

Last night I finished up a trellis scarf.  My cousin taught  me the stitch which is just chains of 5 joined in the middle of each set of chains.  I don't even remember where I got this funky yarn, but one ball was just enough to make a long skinny scarf ... my favorite kind to wear.
Christy at Crochet Happiness is crocheting scarves for her local soup kitchen in Michigan.  She would like to have 100 by Thanksgiving Day, so if any of you have scarves you've made or could make and are willing to donate, she provides her address in this post.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

  3. I can't believe you walked in this heat. It is incredible. Of course, I suspect you don't have the humidity we have here, which increases the heat index.

That's a really lovely scarf. I don't wear anything around my neck (that includes shirts with collars), but your scarf is fantastic. And the colors are superb, too. That must have been some fun yarn!

  5. Seeing what you've created, makes me feel happy inside. The scarf is lovely! I also enjoyed coming along on your walk thanks to the photos. :)

I will be taking a nice long, lunchtime walk today for sure, as guess what - we are finally enjoying some more normal summertime temps - cooler - which means upper 80s to low 90s at the most, and it's absolutely perfect outside. Looks like we're into a cooler weather pattern now - thank God.

Hope you have an enjoyable remainder of the week. I have only through Thursday and then I'm off on Friday with Jim.

  22. Wow, at my house banana bread never lasts more than a day (thanks to the voracious carb appetite of Mr. M - also banana bread is a top favourite of his).

I love the contrast between the terra cotta-coloured walls, the trees, and the sky. And what a very beautiful fence around the mosque.

    Stay cool!

  25. It is so interesting to see the scenery where you live - so different from the USA, isn't it? (At least in the Midwest!) I must say that those dust storms that you get look horrendous.

Absolutely love the scarf that you made! I love wearing scarves, especially in the colder months.

  28. Wow, another great walk, thanks for taking us along.

I just baked 4 loaves of Mango/Banana bread, and 2 loaves of just Banana Bread..gave some away, and the rest is in the freezer.

I had a slice with some butter. I always add a little powdered sugar drizzle and crushed walnuts to the top of mine... the cream cheese sounds good too.

  39. Whenever I see an overripe banana on the counter the first thought that comes to my mind is a banana bread/cake. I wonder how you walked in the hot sun. I never step out of the house during a summer daytime unless it is unavoidable.
