Sigiriya sits within the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka and contains 5 of the 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites that are located in the country. Sadly, we didn't get to visit any of them.
Other than checking on them off and on, there wasn't much we could do. And since we couldn't go far, we wound up taking a morning and afternoon walk, exploring the area around us.
This part of Sri Lanka is in the central dry zone. Temperatures do not usually go higher than about 90 degrees, so it was warm, but bearable.
Kandalama Lake is home to many waterfowl.
And these girls who watched us as we walked along.
Looking back at our hotel; it was designed by architect Geoffrey Bawa so that it would be unobtrusive. The hotel encompasses 50 acres of land that sits within 200 acres of conservational forest.
With the sun high in the sky, we decided it was time to head back for a bit of refreshment.
I collected rocks along the way so commenced to crochet while having a cold one.
Right now the temperature in Kuwait is 115 degrees.
I haven't walked since we got back.
Believe me, there's a BIG difference between 85 degrees and 115.

ReplyDeleteI've been in 85 + 100% humidity temps that are more unbearable (to me) than 115 and dry - I've been in both. Dry hot air doesn't bother me but 100% humidity does, very much.
Thankfully, we're enjoying 90s and less humid at least for a couple of days.

Nope, it's about 50 degrees Celsius here (would that be 122 F?). In winter, when I got sick and tired of the cold, I swore that I would bear the heat and not say a word if it's hot, but this is unbearable! You lifted my spirits up with the beautiful photos!

ReplyDeleteYes, big difference in temps. It's cooled here to the 90's now and 70's in the a.m. so I have the windows open until later in the day. What a great trip you had...so sorry the boys got sick. I got really sick one time in Mexico too....I'll never forget that....bad news! I was so careful too but I think I swallowed pool water.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I found a pattern on Purl Soho for the crocheted rocks and they're on my list to give them a try! It called for perle cotton 12 and I have 8 but I'll try with what I have before I order any more yarn/fiber! Yikes! I blew the budget getting yarn for all my YOP projects as I don't really have a "stash" yet but I'm working on it! LOL! Stay cool!

LOL. It was 111 the day we arrived in the Ca desert. Today humid and looks like rain...in Ca. you never know.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the boys being that sick for two days. BUT you will be back again as this is a partnership and that's not just for the term of one vacation. Sri Lanka, or former Ceylon must be very pretty. Our Indonesidan secretary in Jakarta (head office) came from Ceylon. Her name was Ranadewa and she gave me the prettiest fan made from tortoise shell. A nice memory of her as she did pass away...

ReplyDeleteThe architect certainly did design that hotel to fit into the landscape, what an interesting place. Sorry the boys were ill - not a good time for anybody. The birds and wildlife are very interesting. It's hot here, too, but not THAT hot! I'm afraid I'd curl up in a ball and die! Diane

Yes, unfortunately one of the trials when traveling is what our poor tummies have to endure!! Hope the boys were soon better and able to join in the fun. Bob had a day in bed in South Africa - he was really poorly!
