Peas, Peppers and Pretty Things

One of my favorite meals is brown rice, black eyed peas and banana peppers. When I worked in New Orleans and would get home from work late, it was my go to for a quick meal (without the rice).

When that jar of banana peppers is empty, I know just want to do with it after seeing this post at Signed With an Owl. Since my attempts at the African flower pillow weren't working out, I frogged it to the size of the bottom of my jar, and then made up the sides as I went along. A nice way to dress up an old jar which will eventually be filled with flowers and gifted to friends and co-workers.

Tin cans get a quick paint job and then a crocheted cozy to dress them up. I think I will fill them with candies and chocolates.

Even though these clouds are blocking the sun's rays, it is still 117 out there, so I am keeping busy inside.

Jingles can only dream of going outside.

    You make some very lovely, thoughtful things. I imagine this must be your temperature most of the time. Don't know how you can get used to it. Here, we have a brief reprive from the heat with a high of 92 today and sunny, after a brief rainstorm yesterday.

    I hope you have a wonderful new week too! Jingles looks a bit sad that it is too hot outside. We started letting Leo outside a couple months ago....he is much happier!

    Hello. Yes, after I painted I let it dry and then sanded it down to get that distressed look. I know what you mean about that "shocking" white appearance.

    You know I never tasted black eyed peas.But the brown rice and banana peppers are yummy.It looks like a great but lite meal.

    I hope you have fun at your yarn sale! Isn't it amazing how we always need just a bit more, even though we have loads already!! I can totally relate. I hope you're coping ok in the heat - it must be exhausting. We are the opposite here. Wellington officially had it's coldest day in history yesterday! It's cold again today but it's a crisp, clear day so at least we can go outside. Have a lovely week. See you again soon!

    Brown rice, peppers and black eyed peas ...that is calling to me, sounds wonderful! I'll be trying that, do you use a dressing? I love the crocheted jar, and lovely this will look with flowers.     Your cat reminds me of my kids on hot days :D Especially my son! :) You are so talented in crocheting. I love the bottle cover!! :) My great grandmother tried to teach me when I was little, but I just never got it. I dont know what I will do without her or my grandmothers once they are gone.     That sounds a bit like hoppin jon which I love! Another thing I love? Those jar and can cozies! I am a novice crocheter at best but I would love to try this.
    I feel for you in this heat, we have had some doozy days ourselves and let me tell you it is no picnic without central air. I am going to try a trick that I just read about and that is to freeze a gallon of water and set it in front of the fan so that it blows cool air. Our bedroom is upstairs in this old house and when it was so hot and humid, the fan was only blowing around hot air.

    Tammy, that is a fantastic idea, and very thrifty of you to take the mishap-pillow and make something new from it. I have numerous empty jars just begging for a pretty make over. And a gal right here in the house who loves to crochet! :-)

    Had to tell you too, how thrilled I was that you enjoy tasting the food of the countries you visit. Too many times I hear of friends going to other countries, and all they want to eat is the food they know from Germany. Why bother going any place else then?? You and I share that love of wanting to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of places we visit!

    I love peas too! Purple Hulls are my favorite. I need to get to the market and buy more while they are fresh and plentiful.

    I love how you repurpose your jars and cans! I never, ever thought of a can cozy before.
    I hope that you are able to get relief from your heat soon. It has turned off so hot here as well. It rarely gets this hot here, but it was 94 yesterday. I am out in the garden some today and today feels like another scorcher, but at least we have a little breeze today.
    Maybe we sould both just stay indoors and enjoy crafting?

    Thanks for stopping by my blog. My hubby had a knee replacement last week. I spent lots of time at the hospital. He is now home and recovering. He is using a walker and won't be able to drive for 6 week. So you can see that I'll be a busy lady for awhile. I hope to continue to blog when I get a few moments.

    I love the cozies for the bottle and cans. Some day I may try some of these. Another item to add to my "would love to do" list.

    Stay cool. Our temps are a little cooler (around 105) People laugh when I call this cool but compared to the 116 we had a few weeks ago it is cooler.

    I had trouble getting here because it isn't just your internet that is acting up. I didn't think your blog would ever load today. Beans and rice and fruit are my kind of meals. So healthy. And I pity Jingles in this heat. I bet Bleubeard knows what he's going through. It's been hot and humid here, too. And temps under 100 F are unheard of around my part of the country, too.

    You keep getting mor eand mor ecreative with your craft ideas. The jar looks lovely, and I love the cozy for the tin can. Very cute ideas!! I wish we could see the look on people's faces when they get your containers with croched designs and treats inside.
