Crocheted Comfort

The book I posted yesterday (50 things that really matter) contains short stories about gratitude and lessons learned.  Story 18 is about afternoon naps.
I can only nap if I'm sick or have jet lag, but my husband usually takes quick naps when he gets home from work after 4 p.m.  He goes to bed early every night and can still sleep with no problem.
I'm the mom making the afghans :)  lots and lots of them.
Granny scrap-ghans to be precise.
I just keep adding to them when I come across complementary colors in my stash or am given yarn by a craft friend.  I might go buy a new skein if I'm ready to finish one off.  Some are baby sized, some are bigger.  I never tire of making of them.

One who sleeps under a crocheted blanket is comforted by love.(happilyhooked.com)

Have a good week.

  3. Oh my God, you really create beautiful things! Your husband surely can feel comfortable under those blankets. :)
I love little naps. It's good for the soul.
I remember my grandmother and grandfather always taking them up there in Finnish Lapland when I was there in the summers... I thought it was completely hopeless to sleep at night. Because it was light! 24/7...
    Have a good time!

  4. Pretty afghans. I do the same. I make lots of them with my scraps for the assisted living that Mom lived at. They're very grateful.
    Blessings,

  9. How pretty your afghans are! I am always shocked to see a handmade afghan at a thrift shop, because hoe could anyone stand to give them away?

  11. I am a no nap girl. Hated napping even as a child and luckily my parents didn't force me. I used that time to focus on DIY or some quiet reading. As a parent, I didn't force my kids either, but they turned on the hub's side and love taking naps. Same as you - I nap only when I am ill or sick :) When family sees me napping, they know something is wrong, lol!
    Love the afghans!!!

  12. I'm a fan of afternoon naps. Your blankets are beautiful. I've just completed two single bed size blankets from squares knitted by myself and a couple of ladies in my WI group. They will be going to a charity.

  15. Dear Tammy,
your kitty certainly knows how to enjoy a proper afternoon nap! 😊 I’ve actually gotten into the habit of lying down for about an hour myself after finishing my work. (Back when I was still in the office, I’d often be completely drained from all the frustration it brought me.) That routine has mostly stayed with me into retirement – though sometimes I try to push through the afternoon drowsiness.
My natural rhythm leans more toward staying up late and sleeping in a bit – and I enjoy that freedom!
I don’t own any mom-made afghans or granny scrap-ghans, but I do have two wool blankets my grandmother knitted using leftover yarn. I’m not too fond of sleeping under wool – but in the evening, while watching TV, I love to cuddle up in one of those cozy heirlooms.
I’ve crocheted a few granny square corners myself, though never a full piece with such a continuous pattern as yours – that’s such a great idea for a relaxing TV-time project! 🧶🐾🌿
Much love from Austria – and a gentle scritch to your sweet little cat!
