A few weeks ago I finished reading a book that my friend, Aruna, gave to me sometime last year (possibly even longer ago than that).
The Language of Flowers was purchased at a secondhand bookshop (during a visit to Santa Fe, I think) and, as you can see, Oleander is given the meaning Beware.
I was told several years ago that it is highly toxic, but through online research, found lots of conflicting information on just how poisonous it is. I don't plan on eating any part of it to find out. :) It grows well in our climate and has a lovely, sweet smell.
My lunch view.
I always enjoyed visiting a good bookstore. I will look into the one about flowers. Happy Friday
ReplyDeleteoh what was the name of the author for language of flowers? thanks
ReplyDeleteI remember the book on the language of flowers when it came out. Pretty and useful!
ReplyDeleteI love to read and it has been years since I've been in a bookstore. I either order from Thrift Books ro Amazon Kindle. Stay safe and stay well!
Dearest Tammy,
ReplyDeleteNo doubt that was an insightful book about the different cultures.
You, having visited in that part of the world and knowing several international friends, appreciate it more; as would I.
Language of flowers is always interesting and many countries have a strict protocol as to what flowers to gift or in what color or number.
We used to have a double white oleander and I loved its flowers' smell.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
The COVID numbers are up again in our area I’m weighing the want vs. need to go to a book store. I really want to go look but I know I really don’t need to go. The language of flowers book looks very interesting. Hope you have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been in a bookstore since the first part of the year. I think the meaning of the flowers on that page are fascinating.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I haven't read Oleander girl, though I believe reading a review about it! Believe it or not I have been crazily buying books in 2020, and reflecting about it in the future, would be the year I suffocated my house with books. I have bought maybe more than 50 this year - too afraid to count them down. But I just couldn't resist seeing them discounted - some even to a bargain and not getting any :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty flower even if it is poisonous admire from a distance. I love a good book store and could send hours browsing but not now of course. I've even stayed clear of the Library and am reading lots of ebooks and listened to a few audio books as well, I do prefer a proper book though, the language of flowers looks very interesting I'll have to look it up.
ReplyDeleteTammy - I love bookstores, but I rarely buy books because I don't want to have more "stuff". But it is a fun place to look for journals and other neat items.
