Today is World Smile Day!
Commercial artist, Harvey Ball, created the smiley face in 1963 and through his foundation, World Smile Day was started in 1999 as a way to brighten the world and make it a better place through the simple power of the smile.
Something that made me smile today was finding this drawing book from when my youngest son was in pre-k 15 years ago.
It was still filled with blank pages so when my little friends from next door came over to visit, I set them up with stamps, ink, watercolors and paper. 
Malak is 10 and painted this lovely picture of me and Jingles.
I do believe I could happily live in a little yellow house in the country with an apple tree and a rope swing.
Just not too sure about the pigtails and the short dress though. :)

Yes, living in a yellow house in the country would be nice. There was a time when I rocked the pigtail look. I think that would have been the early 70's. Hope you find many smileys today.

I used to work for the organisation that did National Smile Week in the UK and my boss was always annoyed when the two were confused. Our campaign was about dental health and the importance of looking after your teeth. He wanted World Smile Day renamed to Smiley Day - but of course it never happened.

I love pictures that are painted by children - the one with the yellow house is so sweet - although I thought the person on the right side is a blonde girl with a dog ... :o)

ReplyDeleteWell done on your piece of art, Malak! Tammy, I could quite easily move to a little cottage and live a simple life too. I adore it when my granddaughters come over for a visit and we do all the craft and paint activities together. They love it and are always so proud of their efforts! Interesting to read about the origins of the Smiley face too.

Smiling was instilled in me from a young age by my mom. I'm never quite sure what to make of people who don't smile back when you offer them a smile.

I had the classic yellow smiley face mug back in the 70's. I see them in antique shops now. ;-)
