An early morning departure from Kuwait.
Turbulence on the way to Amman, Jordan.
A car ride to the Jordanian border with a stop for water on the way.
A bus ride to the Israeli border and by 1:00 p.m. we were in Jerusalem.
The reason for my week long break.
There were no hotel rooms available because May 1st was Orthodox Easter so there were many visitors to the Old City.
We stayed with my husband's 78 year old aunt who is blind and one tough cookie.
It wound up being the best thing since the purpose for our visit was to spend time with family.
We did a lot of visiting.
And eating.
They always make sure to have vegetarian and vegan options just for me.
We had a wonderful trip.
We weren't tourists this time so most of my pictures are family related.
Everyone always goes out of their way for us. Leaving was just a bit harder than it was last year when we were there with my boss and his wife.
Over the next several days I'll share more pictures of how our time was spent.

ReplyDeleteGlad you got home safely. Tonight we are off across the pond to Ireland - must run and finish up all the stuff needing attention before heading to the airport for what I hope will be a smooth journey.

Wow, being blind at age 78, can you imagine... But she for sure will have someone staying with her as you cannot exist on your own being blind.
It is very warm to receive such hospitality and you leave with a happy feeling.

How wonderful you were able to visit with family. I think we have lost the "hospitality" gene in some ways. I remember my Italian relatives really laid out the red carpet when you visited and I always felt so special with lots of interest in my life and food galore and you knew that they had worked very hard before you ever showed up. Granted, it was the women that did all the work and as a young child I noticed the men did nothing except get waited on and demand things. That part stuck with me. Even at a young age I felt it was unjust. But, I still think it is a lost art here in the U.S. I can't wait to see more pictures and the food made me hungry! LOL!

ReplyDeleteAny turbulence on an airplane would be about enough to do me in. Seriously. I just won't fly which is why we'll probably never go anywhere far. Maybe... someday once again, but we'll see.

In these turbulent travel times, especially in your part of the world, but really everywhere these days, I am VERY happy you're home safely. Jerusalem is somewhere on my bucket list to visit. I have always wanted to go there, but traveling usually takes us to one of our children these days. How nice that you are made to feel so welcome. I think it's wonderful you went there and to visit family makes it even more special. His aunt sounds pretty cool. Does she have any help to live in her own home? That's nice that they make sure that you have food special for you. You got to go to a place many would like to visit. So lucky it's also home to family. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
