Rock painting is something I've wanted to do with the kids at The Secret Garden for a while. And since I was in charge of arts and crafts this past Saturday, that's exactly what we did.
Give kids markers, brushes and paints and they are happy campers.
Their creativity was amazing to see.
We had a bigger turnout than I expected so the nearly 30 rocks I bought weren't even enough. Some of the kids that came a little late were searching for any type of stone or concrete block around the garden that they could paint.
Two hours went by so visit. While some of the kids took their rocks home, some left them behind for the garden, so the next morning I went back to place them around the vegetable patch.
Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better.

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of my sisters and I painting rocks from around our yard when we were little. We always had many rocks because my parents were pristine landscapers when it came to our yard - we had rock paths that led through the backyard, and an array of landscaped gardens that included rock borders, etc.
ReplyDeleteNot having a good start to the new year here - many bad things which I won't go into. I've always said that people's enthusiasm for a New Year is overrated.
Still... today is a holiday off for me and I'm enjoying a nice day at home. I did begin my day with a 4 mile run and it was 2 degrees out (way below zero with the wind). I didn't get cold though because I had 3 layers of workout gear on. ;)

Lovely post, Tammy! I have a thing for rocks so this was fun to read and to see all the great pictures. Kids are amazing artists. It sounded like a successful day. :)

Two good quotes at the beginning and end of this post. I'm sure the youngsters enjoyed being creative. Stones are so tactile and every painted stone is unique. A great idea to place some of them in the garden.

ReplyDeletePainting rocks is fun! That was a great project for the kids in your program. I remember painting a large chunky rock as a doorstop for my mother. I think I did it in Brownies. Hope you're having a good week so far, Tammy.

The secret garden seems like so much fun. Makes me want to be a child again and do some rock painting :)Incidentally while I drew and painted a lot as a child, (still do) I never tried rock painting!

It´s great to be back here. And to see all the creativity in the Secret garden project. I have to read a bit from your blog each day to get a picture of your year because I was gone from internet for so long time. :)

I´m also a Skywatcher and always look out from the window first thing I do, and last, and sometimes you can see stunning clouds... almost like signs from Heaven. So I saved many photos of the sky on my computer. I think I´ll start publish some of them... :) I´ts inspiring.
