Adults forget the depths of languor into which the adolescent mind descends with ease. They are prone to undervalue the mental growth that occurs during daydreaming and aimless wandering.

As soon as we got home from school today, I put on my walking shoes and hit the pavement. Bad enough I have to be cooped up in a windowless office at school for 7-1/2 hours. I certainly didn't want to waste the afternoon away doing mundane household tasks. Not when the skies were this blue.
This little chicken was out for a walk, too. All alone and to me seemed so very sad. I wonder if she has a place to live or was abandoned.
Busy residential roads filled with cars certainly isn't the idea place for barnyard animals yet now there seem to be more than ever.
For one hour, I wandered up and down neighborhood streets.
Capturing things that caught my eye.
Lots of folks are growing corn right now.
And gardening in small spaces.
It's certainly not Green Acres, but it's nice to see people growing their own fruits and vegetables.
I was home by 5:00 p.m. and it was still gorgeous out. Afternoons are getting a bit longer which makes me very happy.
Of course, shortly afterwards, the sun set and the sky changed.
And then faded to black.
Happy Tuesday!

A lovely walk. That sky was so beautifully blue. We do have sunshine today and 63 F temps but it still feels chilly. I love your photos of the everyday; they always look like a little piece of your life. Have a great day.

Skies that wonderful are definitely not to be wasted are they! So beautiful. It is amazing to see how people are using even the tiniest of spaces to grow things. That is a real testament to the human spirit! xx
ReplyDeleteits lovely to see blue skies and dramatic sunsets. Do the chicken roam around on the roads ? I too love to see people growing their own produce.
ReplyDeleteHow good you found some outdoor time after so many long hours indoors. The quote reminds me of how many parents overschedule their children, so the children lack time for wandering and imagining.
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious day and I certainly can't blame you if you live without windows. Well, I've done that for numerous years when working in the Mushroom business except for the afternoons when I did office work with huge windows!
Today it was very balmy here and I was outside for a brief moment... Pieter is working on the upkeep of the wooden walk trail. Spring will be coming and things need to get ready.
Sending you hugs and blessings.
Mariette
Oh Tammy what a great walk. I enjoyed every step. The chickens, the gardens and wow, the sunset.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Lovely blue sky and such a great idea to take a walk after your workday being "cooped" up. Poor little hen.
ReplyDeleteWith the rising costs of food here it would be very smart to grow something to eat. I have no sunshine for a garden due to the massive forest of trees I live amongst. Blessings...
What a lovely walk! Thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. I think it would seem strange to see chicken wandering around the streets. The fruit looks yummy and cool.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Such a beautiful, beautiful afternoon right in to the sunset!!! So happy you took us along to enjoy it. =) Those tiny gardens look so healthy and good! awesome. blessings and hugs ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos though I feel sad for the chickens. :(
ReplyDeleteI get home by 5:00 too (except Fridays when it's 2:30), but our sun isn't up nearly as high as yours - it's setting soon after I get home and it's always a mad rush when I get home to prepare dinner in time for Sarah and Jim to return home from their work by 6:30, so no time for walking then.
It is so nice to see people growing food and flowers in small spaces and tough conditions! Wish I had more of a green thumb. 2014 was not hugely productive for my veg gardens, but maybe 2015 will be better.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I have to agree about the little hen...a lone chicken is not a comfortable chicken. I hope the critters you see all have homes, and are just out a-wandering in the daytime, looking for something to eat. I'd probably be carrying a bag of grain on my walks, and get home leading a parade. Don't know if that would make me a kind person or a poultry thief!
Beautiful series of photos. Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt always eels good to get out and get some fresh air. Hugs to you, Meredith
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your walk Tammy it's great to see people growing their own, even in a wheelbarrow and chickens walking the streets what next. :) xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day for a walk! The sky was so blue and beautiful and there were so many fun things to see! Great pics! Good for you for heading straight out for a walk after being stuck in an office all day! Nature has such a great way of making us feel refreshed and great! :-D
ReplyDeleteI would go insane if I were cooped up in a windowless office all day! I don't know how you do it. I'm sure it really helps to walk after work. When I was working in an office (and I was by windows!), I would walk outdoors on my morning break and lunch break, even if it were just walking up and down the parking lot rows. So strange to see the chickens just roaming around. You don't see that here.
ReplyDeleteOh Tammy, you are very ambitious to go out and walk after a full work day. I admire that a lot!
ReplyDeletePoor chicks. Wonder from whence they came! Poor things. Susan
Why did the chicken cross the road? To say hello to Tammy of course!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your story to go along with your walking pics! A windowless office...that is the worst! When I used to teach for 2 years i had windowless classrooms...I though it might kill me :) Good moving enjoying the day!!!
ReplyDeleteA lovely change from work. A fresh perspective. And there are always interesting things to see. Diane
ReplyDeleteYou live in a very beautiful place! Thanks for sharing. I sure wouldn't mind some of that sunshine (and warm air) right now. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog.
All the best,
Anne
I love to go on your walks with you. What was that plant in the wheelbarrow? If I could grow citrus like that I would be in 7th heaven! It would have been hard not to grab one of those! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to have a little garden, even if just a few pots. I'm hoping to grow more veggies this year. I love being able to harvest fresh produce for tasty recipes - I love chopping and cooking things I've grown and picked myself! It's a lot of hard work though and so dependent on the climate - that's why I admire our farmers so much, they have to be dedicated and patient, and not mind hard work! "Thank you" farmers who grow our food.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have better weather for walking - wish I could step out with you Tammy!
Hugs - Mary
Any little spot of soil can bring such joy to not only the grower but to those passing by. Nice post -- barbara
