Yadawi Open House

Yadawi.
An idea not limited to handmade.
It's a philosophy with the focus on the process of being a maker.
It's about weaving and creating a community and a way of life that's rich with meaning and beauty.
The Arabic word yadawi means handmade.

Today I attended an open house of Yadawi, an artisan collective.
The venue was a beautiful home called Casa Biyana.

The large wooden front door opens onto a central courtyard which is where the artisans displayed their handmade adornments.

There were even handpainted and carved eggs from chickens, ducks, geese, emus, ostriches.
Incredible work that takes a whole lot of patience.

We were served Arabic coffee and spice apple cider and were able to chat with the artists about their work.  Such a lovely event.

This stray kitty was happily ensconced in a potted plant right outside Casa Biyana.

Truly a beautiful oasis for everyone.
Best wishes,

  17. Looks like a beautiful artisan retreat in the middle of a beautiful tropical setting. Lovely! Glad your break is off to a wonderful start.

I ventured out yesterday with Jim and Sarah but will be happy now to just remain in the house for many days. Too many people and cars out and about in the campus town to our south, all of the Christmas shopping procrastinators which I am not. :)

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas week.
