Mandala Monday

I'm always inspired by Dawn's Mandala Monday posts.
She makes the most beautiful mandalas with items from nature.
She also draws some lovely ones as you can see here.

Mandalas are used as a form of meditation to gain knowledge from within.
And drawing or coloring mandalas is a way of nurturing creativity.
If you google mandala images, you can find some amazingly detailed work.
It takes patience to draw symmetrical designs
that are pleasing to the eye.
Although the process was relaxing, I definitely need much more practice.

The project below is from the Nicki Trench Crochet Living book and is called a Dashing Doily.
But for today I'm calling it a Marvelous Mandala.
Much easier than drawing.

Have a great new week!

  2. Crochet (or knitting) can be marvelously meditative too.

Your meditative mendala is beautiful (and useful too!).

  3. Ah, you are so kind {{hands together}} Thank You.
I love hand-drawn mandalas that have little quirks here and there (I don't use a compass or rulers when I draw mine). I love the "mistakes" for they express our humanness and that is something sacred in my book.
Crocheted Mandalas are amazing! I love to look at all the different ways to add color to change the feel of a simple circular shape.
    Happy Mandala Monday, Tammy!!
    Peace~

  8. Hi Tammy, Thanks for your visits lately. I love your marvelous mandala. The colors are lovely. I see you are crocheting bowls and I've really gotten hooked on making them lately. They are so much fun, especially multi colored and seeing how it will all come out. We've started a yarn group at our church to knit and crochet various projects--baby things, blankets or shawls for cancer patients, and on it goes. Many needs and we get together once a month to keep us focused.

  9. Crocheted mandalas are always pleasing to the eyes. It's quite easy to whip up one and you can make it as colourful as possible. A nice way to use your scrap yarns too. Have a happy week!

  11. Tammy! You got me started on a great Google search for mandalas. I have more to learn, but was fascinated by what I have read so far. Your red, white and blue crocheted doily is so pleasing to view. What is your method for hiding joining color changes? I was surprised to learn in your last post that you are back in school already! I hope you are off to a good school year. xx

  12. Dearest Tammy,
At least you gave the drawing a good try and as you said, we need to practice and cannot succeed just the very first try!
Your crocheted one looks very colorful.
Enjoy the remainder of your 1st workweek after summer vacation.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
