On Saturday I went with friends to the first large, organized Farmers Market in Kuwait
This market first took shape when it was presented as part of the 2012 Middle East-North Africa Active Citizen Summit, organized by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), in partnership with the US State Department. Budour Al-Qassar, along with 60 other young delegates from the MENA region, presented their active citizen projects in Washington DC, and the farmers market was the project she presented. At the end of the summit, the ACYPL gave out small grants to selected participants. They chose one project from each country and the farmer’s market project was chosen from Kuwait.

We arrived when it first opened and within an hour and a half it became hard to move between the stalls without bumping into someone or being stuck.
Which also made it hard to take too many pictures.
I bought fresh greens, Italian focaccia, and many vegan products that aren't readily available in the market.
All in all, I thought it was a great success and look forward to the next one on December 7th.

What a great resource! Always good to see grants supporting something truly useful. And those lush flowers and greens are quite a refreshing contrast to the current color scheme here!

I love farmer's markets...all that fresh produce is so wonderful. Unfortunately, now with the cold weather here, no more farmer's markets in my area. Your produce looks so fresh and delicious!

It must have been a pleasure - the time walking around the market. Whenever I go to different countries I always give myself sufficient time to visit their markets - it' like the soul of the city!

ReplyDeleteQuite a few IG'ers were posting pictures of this event, so I was very interested to see what kind of products were being sold. I love fresh produce and supporting local farmers so this initiative is brilliant. Bon appetite!
