Through the Window

Jingles is being driven to the brink of madness.

And this little white-eared bulbul is the culprit.
For some reason lately, the birds are pecking at our windows.  The glass is tinted so I wonder if they can see themselves.  This one was flying up against the glass over and over again which, of course, drove Jingles crazy.
And look out if you are in her way when she wants to get at them.  Zack found that out today when she literally climbed up him to get to the window.  (There was scratching and blood involved.)
She wanted to make sure she had the best seat in the house.
Crazy cat!

  1. Dearest Tammy,
    I think Jingles is a TIGER! ;o))
What a funny bird - I've never seen a bulbul. It looks like wearing ear muffs.
Warm hugs - and I'm happy that you liked my autumn-photos and the mosaics of Hundertwasser. If you want to make another virtual walk in Vienna, you are heartly invited to do so in my latest post :o))

  2. Poor Jingles. He's only doing what cats do. I've never seen an earmuffs wearing bird either. Our windows are mirrored also to reflect the heat of the sun away in the summer. We have had the same problem with birds. They must think it's another bird to get to.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. Hi Tammy, No wonder that sweet Jingles gets crazy with that kind of entertainment right in front of her nose and she can't get to it. Good for the birds of course. They look beautiful.
    Have a lovely evening!
    Hugs,
    Julia

  4. oh dear, we had a cat like that too... and you are probably right, they can see themselves in the darkened glass...

  5. I think it is probably because it can see itself in the window. We removed a mirror from our garden because a Robin kept flying at it thinking it was another Robin.
All this doesn't help poor old Jingles though does it?

  6. Hello dear Tammy
Poor Jingles - her natural instinct has not been lost even though she is an indoor cat!!!!!!!
Maybe she feels that naughty birdie is mocking her?!

  9. How funny to read this today! There has been a flock of birds that I cannot identify in my little herb garden today, which is nestled up against my house. Every now and then the birds take flight, but they keep crashing into my windows. This part of my house has windows on walls perpendicular to each other, so it's like an L-shape, and there are windows on each leg of the L. The birds crash back and forth from one window to the next, and now there are little gray feathers stuck to my windows, and my cats are looking very intrigued.

  10. Jingles is so cute. I'm thankful my kitties came to us without claws though. ;)

Looks like you're having continued good weather. Grey and dismal here, after a glorious warmer day yesterday.

  12. Hi Tammy,

Oh dear yes, poor Zack and Jingles, must be driving him mad.
I was just hearing on the radio this morning that the Red vented bulbul has made its way here to NZ and there have been sightings of them. Biosecurity are offering a reward for anyone sighting them.
Enjoy your days holiday and off work
    hugs

  13. For some reason I've been missing your posts, but have caught up now! Happy Belated Birthday to Zack (my son is 15 too, he plays guitar & also has a thing for Fender!). The photos of your autumn skies are beautiful ... such lovely soft pink tones. I love the colours you're choosing for your doilies. I agree, that paper would be too nice to use for gift wrap! Looking forward to seeing the end results. We used to have cardinals attack our windows. It was always the males & they do it because they see their "rival" in the window and try to chase him off. Perhaps your bird (who is so cute with those white cheeks) is doing the same thing. Enjoy the rest of your week Tammy! Wendy x

  15. Amazing how cats just know that birds are arch enemies. Jingles is getting lots of exercise...climbing and scratching and jumping. Such torture for Jingles. Maybe a treat is needed. Happy Halloween Haunting...

  18. I think that bird thought it had found a mate.. poor bird. My cat used to stare at the birds outside and her eyes would jiggle in the weirdest way!
    ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  19. Dearest Tammy,
What a maddening situation as this bulbul is attacking its rival and Jingles wants to END it in her way. It's not just Jingles, no matter how but ALL cats have this instinct. Poor Zack for getting scratched that badly by her. She didn't do it because of meanness but because of her instinct.
Hope you will get some calmer times soon.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  20. Poor Jingles! How she must have longed to get her paws on those birds.

  21. Cats and birds is also a classic combination. You are right, most probably birds see their own reflection, thinking that this is a fellow bird, and come over again and again. You know they can even fall in love with themselves! We had the same situation two years ago when a bird used to fly by to see herself in the mirror, and after we covered it, she and one more started building a nest on a hanging rope! Cute and sad... Hope your son is all right. Take care!

  22. Fun story! :)
I guess you´re right when you say they can see themselves in the window...

    Have a great day!

  23. Hello Tammy,
Poor Jingles. a cat tormented, that little bird, so near yet so far.
Poor Zack too, nursing his injuries.
Loved the skies in your last post.
    Sending you cool English breezes,

  24. Cats will be cats and they can be so funny sometimes....but poor Jimgles, that would be torture for sure. We get so much entertainment from La Mancha and from the birds. Of course he is an outside cat, so the birds have to really be fast and aware of him.
Hope all is well with your son.

  25. Awwwww, poor Jingles. He just wanted to do what kitties do-----be a hunter. Cute photos. Susan

  26. I loved the photos too-and yep she is just doing what kitties do-hunting-lol I think the birds do see themselves in the windows but actually think it is another bird in their territory-so the bird is just trying to defend it's space.
Our kitty calico brought us a baby snake as a gift last week-No I tell her-don't want that lol

  28. Oh no! That bird really is taunting poor Jingles. Squirrels have done the same with my cats in the past. That bird is really unique looking!

  29. It's hard to know what birds think of window glass. I have crazy birds crashing into our dining room window about once a week. They only drop to the ground stunned and fly off a minute or two later - thank goodness. But I imagine if we had a cat it would be a fun hobby for him to watch it happen :)

Jingles is such a sweet kitty ....

  30. Poor Jingles! I just have to smile as he reminds me of my orange tabby, AJ. He too had to have the best seat in the house at the window. Sure do miss the him.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

  31. Crazy BIRDS, I would say! Hi, Tammy - have had my Mom in town until this week, and haven't had much time to sneak a peek at my favorite blogs. Back in business now - looking forward to catching up on some reading. Happy Halloween - Tanya

  32. What an unusual looking bird. It's good for Jingles so he doesn't get bored but not so much for the people who get in his way!

  33. A few birds are doing exactly the same thing to our tinted windows and my cats are going mad too!

  34. how funny, maybe they saw little bugs?

  35. Poor Jingles! Being "taunted" by the birds... and poor Zack! Ouch!
