Jingles is being driven to the brink of madness.
And this little white-eared bulbul is the culprit.
For some reason lately, the birds are pecking at our windows. The glass is tinted so I wonder if they can see themselves. This one was flying up against the glass over and over again which, of course, drove Jingles crazy.
And look out if you are in her way when she wants to get at them. Zack found that out today when she literally climbed up him to get to the window. (There was scratching and blood involved.)
She wanted to make sure she had the best seat in the house.

Poor Jingles. He's only doing what cats do. I've never seen an earmuffs wearing bird either. Our windows are mirrored also to reflect the heat of the sun away in the summer. We have had the same problem with birds. They must think it's another bird to get to.

Hi Tammy, No wonder that sweet Jingles gets crazy with that kind of entertainment right in front of her nose and she can't get to it. Good for the birds of course. They look beautiful.

oh dear, we had a cat like that too... and you are probably right, they can see themselves in the darkened glass...
ReplyDeleteI think it is probably because it can see itself in the window. We removed a mirror from our garden because a Robin kept flying at it thinking it was another Robin.

ReplyDeleteHow funny to read this today! There has been a flock of birds that I cannot identify in my little herb garden today, which is nestled up against my house. Every now and then the birds take flight, but they keep crashing into my windows. This part of my house has windows on walls perpendicular to each other, so it's like an L-shape, and there are windows on each leg of the L. The birds crash back and forth from one window to the next, and now there are little gray feathers stuck to my windows, and my cats are looking very intrigued.

I was just hearing on the radio this morning that the Red vented bulbul has made its way here to NZ and there have been sightings of them. Biosecurity are offering a reward for anyone sighting them.

The photos of your autumn skies are beautiful ... such lovely soft pink tones. I love the colours you're choosing for your doilies. I agree, that paper would be too nice to use for gift wrap! Looking forward to seeing the end results. We used to have cardinals attack our windows. It was always the males & they do it because they see their "rival" in the window and try to chase him off. ReplyDeleteAmazing how cats just know that birds are arch enemies. Jingles is getting lots of exercise...climbing and scratching and jumping. Such torture for Jingles. Maybe a treat is needed. Happy Halloween Haunting...

ReplyDeleteWhat a maddening situation as this bulbul is attacking its rival and Jingles wants to END it in her way. It's not just Jingles, no matter how but ALL cats have this instinct. Poor Zack for getting scratched that badly by her. She didn't do it because of meanness but because of her instinct.

ReplyDeleteCats and birds is also a classic combination. You are right, most probably birds see their own reflection, thinking that this is a fellow bird, and come over again and again. You know they can even fall in love with themselves! We had the same situation two years ago when a bird used to fly by to see herself in the mirror, and after we covered it, she and one more started building a nest on a hanging rope! Cute and sad... Hope your son is all right. Take care!

Cats will be cats and they can be so funny sometimes....but poor Jimgles, that would be torture for sure. We get so much entertainment from La Mancha and from the birds. Of course he is an outside cat, so the birds have to really be fast and aware of him.

ReplyDeleteI loved the photos too-and yep she is just doing what kitties do-hunting-lol I think the birds do see themselves in the windows but actually think it is another bird in their territory-so the bird is just trying to defend it's space.

Oh no! That bird really is taunting poor Jingles. Squirrels have done the same with my cats in the past. That bird is really unique looking!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to know what birds think of window glass. I have crazy birds crashing into our dining room window about once a week. They only drop to the ground stunned and fly off a minute or two later - thank goodness. But I imagine if we had a cat it would be a fun hobby for him to watch it happen :)
