Closing Its Doors

Minutes from where we live is a lovely antiques shop.
Over the years, we have enjoyed going there on weekends to browse and to buy.
Unfortunately, the owner has decided to close its doors for good.

With everything 30% off, we decided to make some final purchases.
A lovely painted console (along with the painted wooden vase).
And a coffee table made from an old shutter.
Of course, new purchases meant changing things around in the living room.
Before.
And after.
My family complains that there's no room for us because of all the stuff.

Brenda at Cozy Little House wrote a post recently about living smaller without so much stuff.
It's a concept I definitely could embrace.

Hope you are having a great week.

  2. Dearest Tammy,
You're lucky for finding these valuable items and Mona's beautiful lamp fits perfect on this painted console! Great job. Oh sure there is plenty of room for ALL of you! Lovely living room; you can feel proud.

  3. Hi Tammy, Boy, I could have fun in that store...Sorry it's closing! Your living room looks great~btw! Enjoy your new purchases!
I am looking forward to living small(er) when I move in with Mom later this year. I have to seriously get rid of things. Have started with Craigs List, not too much interest yet~but I will keep at it.
    Hugs,

  4. Hi Tammy...Glad you got some new "treasures" at the antique store. Good luck to the owners, now that they decided to close it. Looks like it was a really nice shop.

You know, sometimes I think of a little house, too, with a little plot of land.

It would be hard to downsize, though. Really, really hard. We get used to having "space" to walk around in (and yeah, to store stuff in.)

I read the blogger's write-up on a smaller space (the one you left a link to). She made some good points but I don't think I'd be happy in a house the size of a two car garage. Maybe in time I would.

However, now that I'm a Grammie, I like the idea of having a little house for the Grammie, where she can yell if she falls down. hee hee Susan

  5. Too bad you will be losing one of your favorite shops. I still have my customers tell me they miss my shop and we closed 8 years ago. I think your living room is beautiful before AND after. Diane

  6. So sad the shop is closing, but perhaps it is for something better for the owner. How about you opening a tea, goodies and crochet shop there? It would be lovely - you could move some of your things from home to the shop. :-)

Your home is beautiful, cozy and welcoming.

  8. I love your home and speaking from a person who has lots of collections, I don't think you have to par down at all. :) Kit

  9. I think your room is wonderful, full of treasures everywhere. I love that it is bright and colorful, and cozy all at the same time. Remember those kids are boys, they don't get it anyway.

  14. Love what you did. Too bad that shop is closing...neat stuff. What are those hanging from the ceiling?
I cleared out lots of stuff when we thought we were selling the house. But now it's filling up fast. Doesn't take long to accumulate things. But it's nice to be surrounded by things that inspire you or things that you love.

  15. Oh what beautiful antiques! I am such a "collector" although nothing I collect would ever be worth anything but I do love it but I stopped....until I get up North again! LOL!
The items you got are gorgeous! Your living room looks so warm and inviting...a real home!
It's sad they're closing but thank you for showing us that antique lovers are everywhere!

How about the gorgeous elephant......as you didn't take him home perhaps I need to come rescue him. What a talking point he'd be in my garden!!!!

Tell those dear boys they will understand decor better when they are older and have to plan out their own living spaces!

  23. Some nice bargains though it's a shame the store is closing. Your lounge room is full of interesting things! I dream of living in a tiny house/cottage one day. I've been doing a lot of reading lately about living a more simple life. Thanks for the link. :)

  25. That's very sad when I see such shops and craft shops closing but then you made some good deals. My husband too feels that we have so many things at home and I guess we use only 40% of all we have. He is suggesting to live a zen like lifestyle .... I said I am ok , I just need my yarns and my daughter said she is fine and that she just need her online games ( forget about books;))
I will read that article too.

  27. Your room is so beautiful with lots of well loved pieces decorating it. We keep talking about getting rid of things so we can travel more when we retire. A great concept but I get emotionally attached to things and don't want to face saying goodbye to them.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  28. Oh I love your living room, mine is more minimul and yours looks so much warmer and homely! I often think that my plain soulless furniture is boring and would love a living room like yours, My husband hates clutter and I am slowly bringing in nicer furniture when his guard is down ;)

  32. What a fascinating-looking shop with such exotic (to me) antiques!

Your room is lovely and looks full of loved items. I'll bet everything in it has a story to tell.

    Have a good weekend!

  33. How sad they are closing. What a beautiful antique shop --- so different than the Shabby Chic Americana in my favorite antique shop.

And I love, love, love your living room --- both the BEFORE and the AFTER!

  34. Hi Tammy,

The 'after' with the addition of your beautiful new console and vase, somehow seems lighter and brighter! This room definitely boasts character!

  36. Hola! gracias por ir a mi blog. Como te respondía ahí, a veces la ventana de los comentarios se esconde detrás de la página principal, por lo que debes minimizarla. Por qué pasa esto? cuando lo descubra te cuento, jajaja.

  38. Sorry that one of your favorite shops is closing, but lucky for you that you got 30% off those lovely antiques! I was just reading through the comments on Jane's blog (Blondie's Journals) and saw your comment about flying into O'Hare and staying in Schaumburg. Really?! Next time you do so, we MUST meet up! I am only 40 minutes from Schaumburg. :-)

  39. I don't know, Tammy - T think your room is pretty PERFECT! And, you made just the right right purchases, too!!!! LOVE BOTH of those tables - and the vase. Sorry about the store closing - happy for your finds, though! Happy Saturday - Tanya
