Yesterday

I managed to get out for a walk before noon.  Taking a different route, exploring new streets and seeing new sights helps to keep me going.
Most of Kuwait looks like this.
Lots of concrete, piles of rubble as new buildings go up, and very little shade.
But when I walk, I focus on the beauty that is there to be found.

Last night we met Mona and Ali for iftar at Wasabi.

Then headed back to our house for dessert and coffee.  Some traditional sweets along with jam shortbread and a chocolate slice (recipe can be found here).
Our Friday will be a quiet one spent at home.
Best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

  11. Your photos are beautiful. Your posts are so uplifting as you search out the beauty in your surroundings.

We've had excessive heat warning all week. One day was 116 and is to be 115 today. Kids have still been going out for playground at school. Rowan the youngest declared "Mema, it really isn't that hot! Daddy said that one time it was 126". I told her I thought the real record was 122 but she insists that one day it was 126. So I guess when you compare 115 to 126 "It's really not that hot!"

  17. I try to do the same Tammy, focus on the beauty. I live in a similar environment to you! Today we walked to the supermarket in the afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised to feel a cool breeze! Iftars here are about to get busy (and fun) with visiting guests!

  18. I think Ramadan is very nice with all the delicious night-time treats! I'm enjoying your posts which contain pictures of such beautiful, exotic, REAL food! I'm glad you can find so many beautiful places to explore on your walks.

It's hot here right now --- DH is watering our lawn like crazy. It's still green, but it is taking a lot of work to keep it that way!

    Enjoy your week-end!

  22. I believe I would have skipped the restaurant and just come to your home for more of your delicious baked specialties!

Glad you found some pretty green spots in that 'concrete jungle'. Good to know there are new buildings going up - progress is always positive in any city. What fruits are in the protective green bags? Dates maybe?

    Have a wonderful weekend dear.

  30. It's so interesting to see your pictures and see what is over there on the other side of the world! The bags that hang in the trees... are those protecting the fruit from birds, or something? Hope you have a really nice week with your friend who is in town!

  31. Hi Tammy,

You certainly do find the beauty - it's so interesting to see also. However, it must be hard walking when there is no shade with the high temperatures. How do you keep cool enough? I like the photo with the rooster!
    Have a good week,
    Sharon

  35. I'm glad you can find the beauty when you take your walks, even among the rubble. Is the weather there really hot right now?

  36. hi tammy, i like that you can find the beauty and focus on that even in the extreme heat. i really appreciate seeing your photos, it's so interesting where you live. my dad lived in iran in the 70's, but we weren't allowed to visit there, so would spend our summers with him in portugal.
glad your enjoying your time with your friends!

  37. I do enjoy seeing these snippets of where you live, it's great that you are still going out despite all the heat, it does feel good to have some time outside exploring. I hope that you enjoyed your weekend and the start of your week has been a happy one:)

  38. Thank you for sharing pics of your surroundings Tammy! I know what you mean...when I lived in Vegas, I was bored and everything just looked brown, and hot to me, so I would really strive to find the beauty. You took some lovely shots and I love the last ones especially with the shade from the palms and other plants.

  40. Wow, I don't know how you manage to walk outdoors in such high temps! I like to get out and about whenever I can and enjoy the sunshine when we get some. That's why I've been away from the computer recently - we've been having good weather!

Also do you ever visit the website Ravelry.com? It's a great place for crocheters and knitters.

  41. Oh, how I would love to go out to eat there and taste all the wonderful foods!
How does that fasting work...all day until sunset? With that heat and no water isn't that dangerous? When do they do road work and such at night?
Just curious not meaning any disrespect.
Your desserts looked so delectable....good thing I wasn't there or no one would have gotten any! LOL! Looks like you had a wonderful evening with good food and good friends.
