Breakfast and Birds

It's nice to start each day in a leisurely way. We had whole wheat pancakes with strawberries for breakfast.

While I enjoy seeing my moss roses bloom each morning ...

my little feathered friend enjoys eating the succulent leaves.

Jingles finds her own treat on the balcony. Tender shoots of grass grow in the pots so she gets her much needed greens.

Did you know there are around 300 species of doves and pigeons in the world? After Mariette from Mariette's Back to Basics referred to my visitors as ring-necked doves, I did some research. Who knew there were so many.

Turns out, there are 5 varieties found in Kuwait: Eurasian Turtle Dove, Oriental Turtle Dove, Eurasian Collared Dove, Laughing Dove and Namaqua Dove.

I think these guys enjoyed a bird bath and a bit of sunbathing before taking off.

Happy Saturday to one and all! Friendship blessings, Tammy

  17. Dearest Tammy,

Guess the doves pick the succulents' leaves for the moisture that is inside of them! Smart to do so, in order to survive. Jingles loves her salad... poor thing and she cannot eat enough of it I guess. Here we only see the mourning dove and very seldom.
You do get some exotic visitors indeed, several varieties come to your balcony.

    Have a lovely Sunday!

PS It is my brother who wrote several books about birds and nature in general. I know only limited about them...

  22. We enjoyed french toast for breakfast this morning but your pancakes clearly top my french toast. It is amazing how many different kinds of birds we see visiting our yard when our feeder is filled. They also like to stop by for a little bath in our birdbath. We do not have the hot weather you experience but did see the sun today and spent some time outside. Thanks for your kind comments when you visit my blog.

  27. Dearest Tammy,

Thanks for your comment! Those flowers look 'almost' wilted due to the drought. They're so paper-thin and fragile, indeed like crepe paper!
By the way, talking pigeons... please look at this post http://godslittlepeople.blogspot.com/
What a horror. You are feeding your pigeons and so do we but there are other people who act so cruel.

    Lots of love,

    Mariette
