May Day

Happy May Day! In many countries this day is known as Labour Day or International Workers' Day.

May is also the month that we celebrate mothers (May 8th) and remember those who died in active military service (May 30th).

May Day is also celebrated as a traditional springtime festival.

While watching the Travel Channel yesterday, I snapped these beautiful springtime images.

Sure wish spring looked like that around here.

Our last day of April was filled with a mixture of dust ...

and rain.

Sweet May hath come to love us,
Flowers, trees, their blossoms don;
And through the blue heavens above us
The very clouds move on.
- Heinrich Heine, Book of Songs

I hope your day is beautiful! Peace & blessings, Tammy

  1. We're fortunate to have a spring like that here. My lilacs are blooming now and everything is just very green, lush and beautiful. This is really the most beautiful time of year for all of the plants before the summer heat and insects get to things. I just finished planting the seeds for the vegetables and flowers yesterday and now it's on to planting my hanging baskets and flower boxes.

We don't do anything special here for celebrating May Day. It just reminds me that there are only 3 weeks left of school here. Sarah's freshman year went by soooooo fast.

  4. Can you believe it is May already? Two months until we are Texas bound. Can you tell we are getting a bit excited??? I wish I was surrounded by all those beautiful flowers you saw yesterday on tv. Hope the dust has gone away. It has found it's way to us, as we had a VERY dusty day today. Not pretty at all. No rain to go with the dust here. Hope the rain did not make any mess for you!!

    Have a wonderful day, dear!

    Love,
    Renee

  7. You poor thing. Do you ever get a season without the dust? Even if you had those flowers you captured, they'd be covered with dust!

  10. Spring hasn't reached
    us here in the Upper
    Midwest, yet....But I
    am really looking forward
to it! That said, I am
sure you are the type to
    bloom where you are planted
    and enjoy what your part
of the world has to offer.
    Thanks for stopping by for
    the tour of Anne's house....
Now THERE is a place that
    fast-forwarded right past
    spring smack-dab into summer.
It was SO hot and humid while
    we were there : ) !!
    xx Suzanne

  11. Wishing you a Happy May Day. Spring is here in the desert and summer isn't far behind. We expect near 100 by the end of the week. Many plants are blooming and many are experiencing allergy related issues. My granddaughter informed me on Friday that her sister is allergic to pollen and that pollen is in the air. This from a 6 year old!

  13. May brought sunshine to our part of the world and the temperatures are rising a little. We have had a cold wet spring. Now I must spend a little time giving our garden some attention. I enjoyed your post today.

  15. Dearest Tammy,

Sounds like you're missing the fresh green and blossoms. It must be tough for dealing with so much dust! Never realized it would be like that for such a long time... Hope you all stay healthy with it. Try to focus on the loveliest of days that surely do exist in your corner too.

    Lots of love,

    Mariette

  16. Hi Tammy! May day was actually our first sunshiney warm day in over a week so I was able to get some much needed yard work finished while John and Duane worked on John's resume. How do you handle all of that dust girl? You stay so upbeat about it.. there is a good lesson for me when I whine about the cold and rain! Thank you for your sweet comment about John. He is such a cool kid, and a wonderful role model to his siblings. xoxo

  17. It's quite warm around here today and the past few days--we did have some thunder and hail storms last week!
Thank you for your visit--the granny squares are actually quite easy to make and they are very portable :)
I hope the dust settles down a bit... happy May!
    xx
