Surprise from Sri Lanka

Last nite I was blog hopping and came across the blog Ms. Bake-It. Tracy lives in Florida and posted about a pineapple head that her son planted in 2007. You can read that post here. All these years later, they were finally enjoying their first homegrown pineapple.

It reminded me of all the fresh fruit we enjoyed while we were in Sri Lanka in February.

Quite ironically, my husband came home from work today lugging in four boxes. And look what was inside ...

Pineapples ...

Coconuts (these are used mainly for the milk) ...

Papaya and butter fruit (a/k/a avocado).

I didn't know what this was but Rambutan has to be harvested with the fruit still attached to the branch.

I had the kids pull them all off and we got two bowls full. They now need to be stored in a dry, cool place.

And we will have fresh pineapple for dessert tonite.

All this fruit was sent by a Sri Lankan business man we met while there. He delivers Sri Lankan fruit and newspapers to Kuwait every day and had this delivered to my husband's office.

I think I'll go cut some more pineapple.

Hope your day is filled with many sweet surprises. Peace & blessings, Tammy

  1. Wow..... The pineapple looks wonderful! I don't care for canned pineapple or any other canned fruit as I dislike the syrup it is packed in! Nothing like natural....

  2. So much fruit! Excellent for summertime, huh? I love pineapple, and have had my share of papaya (the company I work for cultivates them!), though I prefer it in juice :-)
The red and hairy, grape-like fruit once peeled are known as LICHAS or LICHI around here and along Latin America. I even brought some at work today! I usually have some fruit as a middle morning snack.
Enjoy the yummy and juice fruit!
    have a lovely day.

Reminds me of Hawaii. Pineapple hasn't tasted as sweet as it was there!

I'll be full of fish in Alaska, so your pineapple would be a nice treat afterwards!!!

  23. You have definately had pineapple on your plate today. Funny that you saw the blog about the pineapple head that was planted and is now bearing fruit. How very cool that Sam's business friend dropped by such a thoughtful gift. It made me smile, as when I was in Kuwait, during Ramadan, pineapple was the most wonderful snack about two hours after iftar. I had it every night along with roasted almonds. YUM!! Enjoy your pineapple!

    Love,
    Renee

have you tried lychees? they're even nicer!
or, if you can get hold of some, try some mangosteen... sensational!
