Simple Pleasures - Bird Watching

I am once again joining Dayle at
ProjectCollectionButton

for Thursdays
Project Simple Pleasures2

And it seems that Susan at Writing Straight from the Heart and I are on the same wavelength. Bird watching is truly a simple pleasure that anyone around the world can enjoy. Each area has its own variety of birds that flit and flutter about to entertain.

I snapped these photos while at Frederick Meijers Garden in Grand Rapids, MI this summer.

This feeder was a hot spot for a variety of sweet little birdies.

As you can see, these little guys blended in with their surroundings.

While a bat is not a bird, I was totally mesmerized by these fruit bats hanging from these trees found in a botanical garden we visited in Sri Lanka (my 11 year old ran the opposite direction).

There are several areas around Kuwait where folks feed the pigeons and you can find them in large numbers.

Mourning Doves are constant visitors here.

As you can see, our cat Jingles also enjoys this simple pleasure.

Please visit Dayle and the other participants for more simple pleasures.

Peace & blessings, Tammy

  2. You are right, dearest Tammy: bird watching is good for the soul... not only for cats ;o)

  4. Don't forget about my hummingbirds!! I can sit and watch them interact for hours. I never knew a bird could have such a personality!! This summer, my mom had a daddy woodpecker showing his baby how to get at the bugs in the tree outside her kitchen window. They hopped up and down the tree for almost an hour. It was a wonderful thing to watch.
Good to know birds are bringing comfort to everyone!!
    Love,

  5. My simple pleasure wasn't bird watching, but I am standing with you and Susan as a fellow bird lover.

I would probably be more like your son with the bats, though. I have seen a bat up close and personal, and they're creeeeeeepy to me.

Great shots! The morning dove is my favorite.

  8. My mom and I enjoy feeding birds at home. We have a plate where we put bread crumbs and seeds for them, and a whole variety come around, including doves, which are great to see. Now, they come by every morning, and late in the evenings. They have become our "children", and we most feed them :-) ...if Lucas and Mateo don't scare them away!
    have a lovely day!

  10. I love the photo of the dove. So peaceful looking. This is a great simple pleasure, and two bird watchers at the same party. Love it. I'm so enjoying seeing all of the unique simple pleasures that are showing up each week. They really are endless; we just have to be watching for them. Thanks so much for linking up today.

  12. The red winged black bird is beautiful! Nice shot! I love bird-watching as well, something that's been passed down to me from my mom and her mom. Would you believe one of my toddlers first words was "bird!"? She will stand at the window and talk to the birds at the feeder for a long time (for a 15 month old anyway). I say if a 15 month old finds joy in it, so should we! Those babes seem to have a clue about the good stuff!

  13. My parents visited recently, and brought me a book on Colorado birds. My hope is that I will be able to start identifying some of these sweet visitors in the forest! :)
Wishing you a lovely day, Tammy!

  19. Tammy~

Thank you so much for visiting me today. I'm glad my little comment on Becky's blog steered you my way. You are right...what made the cupcakes even MORE wonderful was being with friends.

Now...I'm a bird lover. Late Spring/early this summer, like every year, two tiny wrens built a nest in one of my window boxes outside my studio. I could hear them every morning, afternoon and well into dusk, chirping away as they worked.

I had truly a bird's eye view of them as they couldn't see me on the other side of the glass. I even snapped pics once their eggs hatched. One day I noticed the silence and they had all flown away and the nest was empty. I was sad at first but then quickly realized that life was playing out just as it was meant to do.

I'm excited to see them (or another pair) come back again next year.

    Thanks for saying hello!

    Warmly,~

    Rebecca

  23. Bird watching is one of my favorite things to do. I don't have many in the yard anymore. Can't feed them due to the rats that came here to hang out. Once I got rid of those rascals, I don't dare tempt them back.

  27. Just this morning I was watching a baby (young) bird on the deck. He was so cute with his baby fluff still on him and fluttering around as he was still a newbie at it.

  31. Out my front door and down the steps are my bird feeders which I watch with delight from my dining room window. I am always fascinated with them and the beautiful colors of the different ones who come day after day. We sometimes get such a gathering, it tickles me and most likely always will. Isn't nature such a blessing? Hugs and many blessings to you.
