The cookies didn't make it

This is where you would have found me Thursday night.

Hubby and I were heading out to visit friends -- me with a plate of cookies in one hand and a gift bag in the other. FYI: Moisture + marble = disaster. My sandaled foot hit the first step and with the second, I could feel my foot slip right out from under me. There was no way of stopping the inevitable. Head first all the way to the bottom.

Hubby was still inside getting something and only heard the crash, bam, boom as I tumbled along (and no Jack and Jill in sight). He didn't see it happen, but said it sounded like an earthquake. I must say, for that moment, it was certainly earth shattering to me. Thankfully there was a wall there to stop my descent.

Although shaken, bumped and banged with bruised knees and scraped shins, I brushed myself off, he cleaned up the shattered plate and cookies and we still paid a visit to our friends.

The only thing I could manage to say was "So much for the cookies."

You can find the recipe for them at Kim's place (Happy@ Home). Fresh from the garden mint cookies dipped in chocolate.

Although I tried to make light of the situation, what I really wanted to do was have a good cry. Somehow, in the fall, I managed to jam the pointer finger of my left hand which is swollen and painful.

But I find if I don't bend at the joint, if I don't put too much pressure on it, if I don't twist and turn it too much, it's all good, and I can still crochet and type, carefully. I am very thankful my injuries are minor.

Now I would like to concentrate on pretty things ...

Relaxing things ...

Happy things ...

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. A word of advice: watch your step as you wander along the highway of life. Peace & blessings, Tammy

  2. Oh Tammy, that's terrible you fell but, as you said, it could have been so much worse. Ohhhh, I'm so sorry. Make sure that finger's not broken. Be careful on those stairs. Whew! I have lots of stairs around here so I'd better be careful myself! Take good care. Susan

  4. YEOW.....oh, dear! It hurts just reading your blog post. And your finger is really swelling up nicely, too. Marble stairs and sandals are a recipe (pun intended) for disaster. Years ago I was walking UP the same kind of stairs, the sandal slipped off, I fell and bruised all my toes. Brought me to my knees. So I feel your pain and am sending healing hugs to you from Alaska! Maybe some seafood would help???

  5. Oh Tammy Sweetie...
I am wiping the tears, handing you an ice pack for that swollen finger, and here is another plate of cookies just for you sweet friend. I am so sorry that you took such a nasty fall. Please keep an eye on that hand, you may have to get it x-rayed. It may be more than just a jammed finger okay?

Many hugs sweetie, and so much love. Sherry

  6. What a terrible fall. I must say, you bounced back WAY faster than I would have. That hand looks bad, you might need to have it looked at. Please take care of yourself until you get over it. Dian

  7. Oh Tammy, I'm so sorry about your fall. I'm glad you weren't hurt worse. I'll bet it scared your hubby to hear that. Both my hubby and I have injured (jammed) one of our fingers in the past 4 or 5 months (separate incidents though). The swelling went down after about a week, but it has taken time to heal, so be sure and give yourself that time.
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  12. Good Morning, Dear!
Your finger really does look swollen, but it is good to know that you are managing to use it a bit to type and crochet. Not much gets you down, does it?? You are a lot stronger than I am, as you got up, and actually went to go see Sana after all this happened. Please take care of yourself, and if the finger does not stop swelling and hurting after a few days, so see someone to make sure it is not fractured or something.
The cookies look AMAZING. I might have to go check out that recipe. Hope you were able to try a few!
    Take care!!!!!
    Love,
    Renee

  14. Oh Tammy, this is awful!! I'm so glad you're okay although if I were you, I'd have that hand xrayed as it looks like you could have a break and at least need a splint.
Please take care of yourself - have a peaceful remainder of the weekend.

  16. Gosh. That was some tumble you took. Your injuries could have been much worse. And cookies can always be baked again. You only get one body. Take care of that hand. It will heal in time. Soak it in Epsom Salts. Might make it heal quicker.Take care.

  17. Thank goodness you are OK! And your poor finger - oh no!!! I slammed my finger in a car door once and it looked just like yours. Mine was swollen due to a calcium deposit (nature's way of taking care of things)... it hurt but eventually faded away. Have a restful and lovely weekend!

  19. Oh my gosh! That was a nasty fall and so dangerous. I thank God you're o.k. I would definitely cry after an experience like that.

  20. Tammy honey I think you should go to your doctor and ask to be checked out. It took them three weeks to discover I had broke my two vertabraes. This was a horrible fall and I am so very sorry that it happened to you.
Please take it easy for at least this next week.
I am like all your other friends that finger looks very painful.
You certainly deserved a big cry after this. I too wanted to cry but I had half the Sheriff's dept surrounding me and I tried my best to only let a few tears slip down. hahaha
My prayers are with you and please take care of yourself
    Love ya
    Maggie

  21. HI Tammy,
Heres just hoping you are ok after your fall.
Have a long soak in some sweet scented bubbles then sit and relax with more cookies and a nice cool drink.
    Take lots of care,
    Angela.

Hope you soak that finger and have a better day.

  23. oh sweetie..what a nasty thing to have happened..take care..ice your had and take aspirin to take down the swelling...hope you feel better soon..

  24. Wow, Tammy, what a spill! Do make sure your finger isn't broken. You know the RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) treatment, I'm sure. After 48 hours, I think you begin to do heat. But what about those cookies? Did you brush off the shards of plate and find some that were untouched by glass/china? They look so delicious in the picture.

Way back in the dark ages I had a similar spill. I had mopped the kitchen and the back stairs landing. Then in my sneakers I stepped onto the top step. I felt myself going so I lay down on my side and bumped all the way down on my ribs. You see, I was 9 months pregnant and I didn't want the baby to be hurt. She was born the next day and physically perfect Apgar 10. The ribs hurt more than the natural childbirth!

  28. OMG!!! You were really lucky, my friend!!! Too bad the cookies can't say the same! I hope the swelling goes down soon and you have no more pain, but keep an eye on it, just in case!!

  29. yikes! so glad you are ok! but poor finger! take it easy on those stairs again. guess you will have to make friends with them from now on. those cookies look great and did you ever find the opportunity to have that good cry? xoxox

  30. Oowwy! I am so sorry for your fall! I sure hope you are feeling better soon, and glad that you didn't break anything! I think I would have had the same reaction about the cookies :) I noticed the picture on your sidebar of the Acropolis. We went to Greece about 6 years ago & loved it! We stayed on the mainland, and went to some remote villages where I don't think many tourists get (I love doing that!!). It's so funny, because I don't know how many times people asked us if we were German! We don't sound German in the least, guess it was my blond hair! And I don't think they saw many Americans in those parts! Anyway, they were all super friendly, and I would love to go back someday. Feel better soon!

  31. you are so lucky.....VERY lucky. Praise God you didn't get more injured. The heck with the cookies.....someone else should make YOU some. Feel better soon :-)

  32. Glad to see you survived, but don't try to be a martyr, get that hand checked out. With those marble stairs, you are very lucky it didn't end up worse and I am very grateful that you came out of that just dusting yourself off and going about your business. Touch chickie you are. I tell ya, this humidity is gonna kill us one way or the other. When I read it, I felt like running over there and giving you a big hug....of course, its 10:30pm and you're probally soaking your wounds and getting ready for bed to start off a new work year. I go after tomorrow. Take care of yourself and take it easy. Can't go around breaking those crafty hands of yours:)

Sending Love and Hugs and Boo Boo Kisses your way!

  34. You sweet girl! I'm so very sorry that you had this fall! You are tremendously lucky! I fell on carpeted stairs in our TX apt. and ended with a seizure and my spine skinned through. It was horrifying. I'm so thankful that you are safe and well. I just adore your blog with your uplifting music and sweet buttons! I will mail you some decoupage if you can't find it. Let me know.
