I worked there for many years and grew up in the suburbs, many of which began as tiny little towns surrounding the big city, but none of them are that way anymore. It's hectic, it's noisy, it's filled with (ugh) people. I am not truly a people person. I say it time and time again to Jim, that I would love living where there is no one for miles. Someday, we will likely do just that somewhere further south, where the winters are milder. Maybe even in beautiful Southern Illinois, which is my current wish. But in the meantime, we live in a smallish town of around 12,000 in the middle of the state of Illinois. My Chicago friends and family consider it sort of boring and small, but I think it's heavenly for a number of reasons. Even the larger college community to our south where I work, is still so much nicer than being in Chicago. It's a much slower relaxed pace and that's what I like best. That and - open spaces (though I'd love to have some hills and more trees!) I like having mountains around me, too. It's cooled off here and been rainy, but now we have a week of hot weather at our door. Good thing as I have an outdoor event that I'm in charge of day after tomorrow at the falls. I live in a small town and love it. When visitors come and ask me (while I am doing Chamber Visitor duty) "what is there to do here?". "How long are you able to stay?", I ask. "Oh, we are just here for the day (afternoon)." Then I suggest they merely walk the streets and read the plaques placed on many buildings and simply revel in the ambiance of what once was. Our entire town of Nevada City is on the National Historic Registry. You should see how most people smirk and just don't get how to appreciate where they have stopped to visit. Very sad. I feel so fortunate to be able to live here every day. Thank you for sharing your "Small Town" visit dear.Createologyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17141896048450385243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8263927360240129050.post-74359683018025452112015-09-07T19:25:02.941+03:002015-09-07T19:25:02.941+03:00Wonderful images and words, Tammy! When they aren't there because I'm somewhere else or they ARE there but socked in by the weather I feel a little lost. It's so comforting to know they're ther and can't imagine not living near them. Hope your son is settled in to school. Living in one you sometimes take it for granted but then when I drive to Austin and fight traffic I remember I live where I do for many reasons.
Yes nature is a beautiful backdrop for everything and with fall here upon us now I do hope to stroll through my surroundings like you do and soak it all up.
I have missed you and your writings. Your blog looks fantastic and I love the changes since I have been here.
You have lots of changes in your life too as well. Your college son and youngest being a Senior in High School. I can still remember the feelings I had when mine were leaving the nest.
While I was lucky enough to be here I read several older post. I have plans to read lots more. I love the secret garden and the colorful wraps around the trees. Oh my you are so creative. That's a delightful way to bring colors into your garden before nature does her lovely work.
So great to be visiting with you. I am trying really hard to get better. When I have good days I am learning to take advantage of those and mostly be grateful!
Love you
Maggie
Grandma Yellow Hairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10917551672825097342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8263927360240129050.post-20976538595158044752015-09-07T15:16:27.208+03:002015-09-07T15:16:27.208+03:00Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures wit...Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures with us! I would love to live in a small place! That would be so refreshing both to the mind and soul (and body of course). The city clutter, noise, pollution and what not is driving me mad increasingly as I get older.
